Has anyone delivered a frank breech presentation at home who might like to share? At 38 weeks, wee one seems to be happy head up, so I'm tying to prpare for whatever may come!

I had a great natural breech birth at the Farm. The story is in my signature. It wasn't at MY home, but it was still pretty much the same as a homebirth.

My midwife assisted one a few years ago. The only complications I recall from hearing the story (I also knew the mom and little boy) were that the labor was long and hard and that my midwife decided that an episotomy would help the baby move through quicker. She did a small cut that got sewn up later at a hospital.
Good luck

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I've been to the knoxville area in the fall, I can only imagine how beautiful it was on your drive....

Not personally, but there are TONS of stories. It's totally safe, and there are a few tips, like you have to be in an upright position, and it's best for nobody to touch the baby. You just let the legs and body hand until it's ready to emerge. I had a UC so I did a lot of research and was ready for this. There are lots of videos on youtube, you can probably do a search for breech delivery/ homebirth / etc.

Honestly, I would not do one without having an U/S to find out why the baby is breech. I assisted with a breech birth as a student. It was a client that had just moved into town, so we didn't have records or anything on her yet. We found out baby was breech while she was in labor. To make a very long story short, the baby was in a very unusual position with arms locked over his head. He was very stuck and in the end died. (I hate telling horror stories, because I totally believe in homebirth and even breech, vaginal deliveries.) Upon further research, we found out that this was such an unusual position and that even a doc doing a C-section would have had trouble getting him out. There are other reasons as birth defects that could be a small reason why it is staying breech, which is why I won't deliver a breech baby without making sure those don't exist.

I have had two frank breech babies, separate births, at home. Mine were UC's though. The babies and I are healthy with no physical anomolies. However, there are some instances, like the pp said, that this is not the case. But in Henci Goers book the mode of delivery(c/s vs. vaginal birth) did not seem to improve the fetal outcome. My births went well, too. I labored and birthed standing, squatting, and on all fours for both breech births. My first breech birth was also my first baby and I didn't tear. I would recommend staying upright as much as possible even while laboring. The butt does not apply the even pressure the head does, avoid pushing even when you feel the urge, and make sure you are comfortable with the midwife/doctor and their skill in this particular area attending your homebirth.

I'm glad you liked it! The drive was wonderful, it's one of my best memories, actually. It was the middle of the night, but the moon was shining, and there was a little snow at the sides of the road (luckily none was ON the road!), and it was really beautiful. We watched the sun come up as we drove.

*I* would not feel comfortable with that risk. Because the risk after all is losing your child.

To the OP- absolutely. No way I'd consent to a section just due to frank breech position (other breeches- I'd consider) And hospital practitioners are NOT trained in safe breech birth.

Breech is a variation of normal.

I'm in your DDC and you might remember that my baby was breech for a few weeks too. We were fully planning on going ahead with the homebirth, and I even have the option of vaginal breech birth in the hospital.

How are YOU feeling about it? How experienced is your midwife in breech birth? That made a huge difference for me, because I love my midwife and trust her pretty much implicitly. She has the most breech experience of anyone in town so when she said "I feel totally comfortable delivering your breech baby if that what it comes to" that was all I really needed to know. I also know that the idea of going to the hospital for a breech birth, just thinking about it made me physically ill. I felt like on this issue I really needed to trust my gut and my instincts felt like the homebirth was the right thing to do.

this is from an MDC mama. A surprise breech UC. I cried my eyes out when I read this story and looked at her pictures.
