longies with no short rows

Thread Starter
I am a new knitter. I have done a couple of projects, including one pair of longies from the holy sheep pattern. I would like to do some striped ones wiht wideish stripes(2-3 inches) and know that the short rows will throw it off. Can I jsut leave them off, or is the a pattern that does not have them?

Thanks!

I have left short rows out before and it resulted in a super tight bum area. It was rough getting them over fluffy diapers. To compensate, maybe you could increase the number of stitches after the waistband. Short rows are just so nice for curves, I haven't done them in stripes though.

my picky pants has an option without short rows Though, You could work the short rows so that one section of short rows falls into each stripe. the stripes on the booty will be bigger, but they'll all still be even so it won't be very noticeable.

picky pants has a version with no short rows- I haven't tried it since my babies must have short rows.

The other thing that might work is the tiny bird organics pattern- it is knit in 2 pieces and then seamed- you would have to be very good about your seaming though...

I have the picky pants pattern and have tried one of the two no-shortrows options. The option I used has you increase width and rise to accommodate the diaper. It seems to fit okay on my toddler, but she is skinnier now than when she was a roly poly infant. I think I will use the short rows when I make them for younger babies. The other no-shortrow option doesn't increase anywhere and they say its not recommended unless you have a super skinny baby or you're ecing or something and so don't have diapers to worry about.

I vote for the short rows included in the stripes on the bum - accentuate that cute bum

I've done the Tiny Birds Organics ones and there is no shaping at all for a big diaper bum, and the seaming is a pain, I don't like them. I do love the picky pants though, but haven't tried the option without short rows. Another vote for incorporating the short rows into the stripe.

I've made a few pair without short rows and they turned out just fine. I increased the stitches after the waistband and made them longer to compensate. You can click my blog link below and see a pair that I just embellished. They're on my boy so you can see how they fit the bum.

I made the Picky Pants w/o short rows (using a variegated yarn), and while they haven't been road tested, they seem like they'll be roomy enough back there. There are...increases and stuff. (pregnancy brain)

I've done several pairs of striped longies like this, and it looks really nice. Each set of short rows is just two extra rows, so unless your stripes are tiny it won't be noticeable. Just do one short row per stripe, spaced evenly down the bum (I like to do 3-4 usually) instead of lumping them all together.
