Violent vomiting

Tonight my 6 month old son Kieran went from being his usual cheerful self to suddenly vomiting after eating cooked pear and Acorn squash for dinner. He did so every 5 or so minutes for 2 hours, and was dry-heaving towards the end. He was in obvious pain and distress. And as suddenly as it started, he nursed and stopped vomiting and is happily cooing away and all smiles again.

I've seen his older sister go through the stomach flu, and the usual spit-ups, but this was very different in that it was so abrupt and violent. I am assuming food allergy and am wondering if anyone with little ones who have food allergies have had a similar experience? And anyone with kiddos who can't tolerate pear? Kieran has had squash before and been fine, so it looks like it's the pear. And here I thought pear was safe!

Thanks!

My DD and DS are both sensitive to pear. But it could have still been a virus. Though I guess if no one else catches anything, then I'd be more prone to believe the food as the culprit.

Does he have a fever? Was anything else mixed into the squash?

It sounds like FPIES to me. Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome. Usually outgrown by age 1.

No fever. He ate the cooked pear, and an hour later a few spoonfulls of cooked squash. He's fine this morning!
