For those who live here or nearby, Mississippi is one of only 2 states that does not provide for a philosophical or religious exemption waiver for vaccinations. We do have a medical exemption, but it is nearly impossible to get for all vaccinations. So this upcoming year is very important to getting laws changed
I dont know all the details yet, but I do know that Monday, DEc 15 there will be a hearing about Mississippi's current vaccine exemption laws. Rep Steve Holland will be in attendance and HE one of the major reasons the prior attempts at achieving a philosophical/religious exemption have not been successful.
All i know is that he will be there and this is being put together by Kay Matthew with the Regional Rehab Center. i do know a couple of local pediatricians and someone from the DOH will be there as well. There will be 5 minute presentations from both sides of this issue. Regardless of your decisions to vaccinate your children, please understand this issue comes down to basic rights of parents to make informed decisions for their children. We NEED your presence there if we are going to get anywhere on this issue. Please let anyone interested know about this and I will update as I have more information.
