Feedback on these ornaments I made? Cute gift, or stupid...?

The idea for the birdie came from a thread on the toys & dolls board, but since this post is about ones I made into ornaments I'm posting it here.

We made a birdie for my son and I thought it was super cute, then thought OH it would make a cute ornament! Then had the idea to make a family of birdies for our friends. I think I like them, but not sure.

Before I make any more, thought I'd ask here to see what people thought. Are they cute? Any changes you'd make? Do you like the names on there or leave them off? (The mark on the bottom of one is the date, I just put '08)

Thanks for your help!

Here they are:

(I don't know why they look pinkish/purple in the photo. In person they are just a faded red)

Very cute! I like the names, it makes them personal. We just went to Hobby Lobby to look at ornaments and there was nothing this original there. Good work!

Thanks everyone! I liked them but kept having doubts... but I feel reassured now that they are gift-able.

They're great!I like the names and I don't normally like that kind of thing. But the way you did it they look really nice.

Every time I make a gift,I doubt it.Uhg!What is that all about?

Agreed! Very cute and very giftable! Can you link me to the thread about making them? That would be a lovely thing to do for my family for next year!

thanks everyone!

This site shows how to make a wooden birdie (really simple!).

I painted them with watercolors then finished them with a beeswax polish.

I'm not sure... I just started this stuff and the few things I've made were small. I've never used milk paint either. I say give it a shot Won't hurt anything. You may need a few coats depending on how dark you want the color. I kind of like the faded wash look of the watercolors.
