Just what it says... do you prefer yarn that comes out more or less self-striping, or yarn that is just a mix of colors that comes out without any pattern?

I have a pile of yarn here waiting to be dyed and I'm wondering if I should continue with self-striping (which is more work), or just switch to mottled colorings.

ETA - this is yarn I sell at the LYS, not for my personal use.

voted mottled, dunno why I just like it better, seems a bit gentler on the eye to me.

self striping if it's truly self striping. But otherwise mottled. I really dislike short lengths of colors that pool oddly.

I guess I'm no help.

Mottled. I'm loving a very gentle variegation though- I don't like self-striping unless it's very long colour repeats like Koigu or Noro.

Not into self striping at all. I prefer really short color repeats or tone on tone kettle dyeing.

Mottled, hands down.

The consensus seems to be mottled, I'm actually fairly surprised at how many of you prefer mottled to self-striping. Thank you so much, you've saved me a TON of work.

Warping the yarn for self-striping it a PITA, so I'll just go with mottled from now on.

Thanks again, ladies!
