Cloudy urine is normal, right?

My non-verbal, walker-using DS just PL'd this week at 3.5 years old. : I thought I'd be washing diapers for at least another year!

Anyway, his pee is pretty cloudy sometimes, but only for the first second or two, then it looks clear. Normal smegma, right? I figure that's what it is, but as I've never actually seen him pee start to finish, I just wanted to be sure. Oh, and he's not retractable yet at all.

Cloudy urine like you describe sound normal to me. If it had a bad oder with it then I might worry.

probably just normal smegma.

Cloudy urine has nothing to do with the penis itself. It could be an infection, or it could be that he is slightly dehydrated. I'd suggest posting in Health and Healing. If it's mostly clear, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, its only cloudy for a second, then its clear. Its not red as far as I can tell and he doesn't seem to be in pain and he's still peeing in the potty so I'm guessing its fine. I don't think he's dehydrated though, the kid drinks water like a fish.

I'll just keep an eye on it. I just wasn't 100% sure because DS is the first boy in our family to be left intact in probably 70+ years.

It is likely to be the shedding of the dead skin cells. Especially since it is only cloudy at the beginning. The urine is flushing out the dead skin cells, which is actually a good thing. Don't worry about it unless he is in discomfort or has a fever. You would KNOW if he had a UTI.

Did I hear correctly... your son uses a walker?

I'm not sure if you know this, but walkers have been banned in Canada since some time in the early-'80s because not only are they dangerous (numerous children have died from falling down the stairs while using them), but not only do they not "help" in the walking process, but actually imped the walking process.

Oh no, no, no. I meant a gait trainer. As in like, a walker like elderly people use, only child sized. I just meant that I was pretty proud of him for PL'ing at only 3.5 when he can't speak or walk.

No worries though, I don't like baby walkers either. -shudder-

Cloudy urine is usually a symptom of a urinary tract infection but would be cloudy from start to finish. A starting cloudyness could be an infection of the urethra but there would also be burning/pain involved.
