At the moment, where are you planning to birth?

I'm planning a HBAC, and am starting to interview midwives now. I had a planned cesarean with my ds because I didn't know any better(doc's "orders" , and while it wasn't particularly traumatic, I want a more nurturing experience this time, in my own surroundings. :

ds was born at home and barring any unforseen complications, this one will be too.

I accidentally clicked at home instead of at the hospital. With dd's birth, I had a fantastic, intervention free (not even an IV!) hospital birth. I'd seriously consider a homebirth but I really don't want to change careproviders since I am IN LOVE with my midwife.

I chose at a free standing birth clinic because that's the plan right now.
That may change though, as I'm slowly trying to convince DH that being at home with a midwife is just as safe as being at a birth center with a midwife.

We're planning a homebirth

I plan on giving birth at a hospital.

With my age and health issues, I'll feel safer giving birth in a hospital. I'll be 40 when the baby is due, add to that my Emphysema and that this will be my first full term pregnancy... I'm not taking any chances.

I don't know 'how' I'll birth yet, I think that will depend on how things are when I'm closer to the due date. I'd prefer a vaginal birth, as recovery is so much faster, since I'm single, that recovery time is pretty important.

Home!!

I'm planning for a homebirth. I had an intervention FULL birth at the hospital with my daughter and felt like I had no say in what was done. I was lucky they did not do a c-section. That was the one thing that I would not budge on even though all the doctors and nurses were preparing for it.

I am just looking forward to a peaceful birth where I can control the enviornment and the decisions about my body.

That is awesome and I am so happy for you to have such a great care provider!

I have no idea! I have preferences of course but it all depends on where we are when this baby is born and what care provider is available probably on short notice.
Homebirth sounds nice, but I'm not entirely sure where home will be and by the time this baby comes it will be a new home for all of us. I'd prefer a birth centre to a hospital, but I've heard good things about the hospital in the place where we'll likely be moving (very pro-natural, etc.).
By the time this babe comes I will have had 3 different prenatal care providers in 2 different countries

This is me too. Well I did have an IV but not until way into everything when I started hemoraging pretty bad.

With my last baby I used a free standing birth center. Would love to birth at home but it is still early and I have not decided yet.

I would like to birth at home or in a birthing center, but we'll see. Probably will end up at the hospital again. The last time around, there was major drama about me giving birth at the super awesome hospital up in Orrville vs the standard intervention-happy ones up in canton. Why? Because when I was six I had ONE seizure (tonic-clonic-status) - and thus have been diagnosed with a seizure disorder/epilepsy ever since. And my old neuro flipped out when he found out i was pregnant (cause' I'd gone off phenobarbitol after finding out about its effects during pregnancy, and that was just horrible, and so I should go back on it, but THAT would be horrible too! And so, just horror of horrors!!). Needless to say I haven't been back to see him since (or any other f'ing neuro - the other one I saw previous to that and the other ob/gyn I saw down in SC both told me I should *never* work or even be around horses - this while I was managing a horse barn!!).

So. We'll see. I'm debating atm whether or not to even tell the new midwife about my supposed condition (having had zero seizures since that ONE when I was six, what, 18 years ago?) and having been off medication for 2.5 years.

At home.

My first was born in the hospital- looooong induction, epidural, episiotomy....

Second and third were born at home, and this one will be too, barring any medical reasons to birth at a hospital.

we're planning on using the only birth center in my state:

i'd love a home birth but medicaid doesn't cover that. so i'm driving 2 hours to the birth center b/c i'm just not doing a hospital birth again.

my first was a typical induction/ epidural/ episiotomy/ near c-section
my second was a midwife attended hospital birth and the standard protocols were just a pita. vaginal exam before check-in, bugging me about hep-b shots, no water birth, etc

I'm considering home, and my doctor will suggest a home birth (yes.. a doctor suggesting a home birth... thats why i go there!)

But I really love my hospital and the fact that I'm actually more relaxed there than I am at home (again, why i go there!)

DS was induced, other than that drug-free... and I was amazed at how easy it seemed, but everything was really relaxed... granted it was 4am and everyone was TIRED lol.... and he was only induced because I'd had a placental abruption at 19 weeks and he was not responding well with my stress tests. He was 41 weeks when we induced.

DD was everything-free. I tore a little with her and needed stitches but I'm glad i didnt have an episiotomy. And despite that my now-XH wouldnt even so much as LOOK at me let alone hold my hand while i was going through it... he sat and stared at the wall and complained that he was missing work and wasnt gonna get paid (they're exes for a reason right?) the nurses were all SO sweet and holding my hand and helping me through.... my biggest thing i remember was ... first i couldnt stop saying "oh she's so pretty!" and secondly that my mom got "upset" cuz the nurses took "FOREVER" giving her her clean-down cuz they were brushing her thick, dark hair. But my moms not a meanie like that she was just joking cuz even now she loves brushing DD's nearly-butt-length brown hair.

So I dunno. I think I'll actually just wait and see in about 6 months where i feel better about.
