She started scratching her head a few nights ago. I finally thought to look through her hair and she has a little bit of cradle cap - hasn't had any since she was tiny. So...since it was originally an issue of dairy I wonder if the curry I had the other day had dairy....or has her shampoo caused this since it has corn and we have ID'd an intollerance to that (although she has never had a skin reaction to any food other than the cradle cap with dairy early on)...or what the hell else? (BTW - she only gets her hair washed about twice a month. I use Burt's Bees.). Her poop also seems to have taken a turn for the worse (a few bits of undigested food, more yellow instead of brown, a few instances of very loose stool) with no obvious diet changes and she had a bad time this morning starting at 4 am - as if I had eaten something bad just before bed and that's when it got into her system. Can't ID what it would be though. Any thoughts? I feel like all of a sudden we're going backwards.

In retrospect, and only with help from some of Firefaery's old posts, I saw that my daughter's cradle cap was an indication of yeast, and this past summer her poop turned yeasty again. She just turned 5 last week, and I feel weird every day looking at her poop when I wipe her (she still needs help) and evaluating it, but it's really helpful.
For us, best I can tell right now, it's been stress related and early this year, after our first move, I slacked big-time on making stock and making/serving fermented veggies. Guess they really were helping last year, but I didn't appreciate them.

Hmmm...thanks for jogging my memory about yeast. I have definately been eating lots of sweet things lately. (And, coincidentally, totally slacking on CLO and probiotics for me and slightly slacking on them for DD.) Maybe I should give her enzymes again - they seemed to help a lot last time.

My ds's cradle cap was from eggs and wheat. <shrug>
What kind of curry was it? Indian curry often contains yogurt.

Thai curry - and I was assured there was no dairy (or gluten or corn) but she had a bad reaction that night so obviously it had something in it! I still eat eggs and she has been totally fine with them - never reacted to them. Hopefully I won't have to add that one to the bad list. I think I may waste away.

So I know how you feel.FWIW- DD's cradle cap was from dairy. or eggs. (they were both taken out just shortly before the cradle cap went away.)

Yeah, that or ignorant restaurant people.
Honestly, she did fine when I trialed butter a while ago and I have not been strict GF for months on end (did a few trials here and there because I've never actually confirmed she is intollerant to this - just that it doesn't help. But I've broken down and done "trials" a few times
). All this to say...an x-con issue with dairy or gluten I don't believe would have caused such a hellish night. Corn, perhaps - I'm still learning about this one and perhaps she would have reacted way more strongly to it now that it's out of her diet. I think perhaps the main thing is that I need to get more diligent again about gut healing. I got kind of lax because everything was going so well.

I wish that I had info for you.
...just lurking...
This is so interesting to me. All three of my children had (have) cradle cap and I had no idea that it was an indication of an allergy. My 4 yo still has it!! Yikes!!
I'll have to look into this some more!
Sorry to interrupt...

My daughter had cradle cap really bad when she was younger (3 to 8 mo), we tried everything the pediatrition suggested and nothing worked. My mom is a reader and she found a book titled "Superimmunity for Kids" by Leo Galland, MD in it Dr. Galland speaks about the Essential Fatty Acids, Flaxseed and Evening Primrose Oil, being necessary for babies and children with cradle cap, eczema, allergies, etc.. Also Vitamin E.
He states "if your child is excessively thirsty, or has dry skin [cradle cap, eczema], dull, lifeless hair, or has any problems with allergies, infections, or behavior issues, he/she may have an EFA deficiency. So it is vital that your child get omega 3's in some form every day."
He also recommends the BEST way of giving infants and toddlers these oils is by just rubbing them into their skin. So my mom went to health food store and bought a bottle of each. The Vitamin E and Evening Primrose oil came in capsules and the flaxseed is just oil. We used 2 Vitamin E capsules, 2 capsules of the Evening Primrose, and 2 tsp of the Flaxseed oil, mixed them together and rubbed it into her scalp...and it totally cleared it up!
