I was told by a coworker that if you got a flu shot 10 years in a row that you wouldn't need to ever get another one because you would have gotten so many different strains. I know this isn't true, has anyone else heard anything like this? Also, would you have any protection this year from flu shots you've gotten in the past (not this year) that contained the current circulating viruses or variants of it. This is assuming of course that the flu shot provides any protection at all when it's an exact match, which I know isn't a proven thing.

My first thought is that there are probably more than 30 strains of the flu. I did a quick google search and nothing came up.

more tripe from the pro vax crowd.

Actually I would be surprised if that really came from the pro-vax crowd, since it's not the way they say the flu vaccine works at all! The pro-vax ideal is to get one every year, right?
That said, it sounds utterly silly to me. It's not like there are 10 strains of the flu, period, that rotate on a decadal basis!

The vax only lasts at most what 18 mos. Besides just takes this years vax - 3 all new strains they have never had before. They base the strains on what they think will be the most common that year. So if you got a shot every year since 1997 you would be out of luck this year. And of course, thats if every shot worked. They don't work well if at all.

imo that's nonsense. But if you get the flu shot 10 years in a row you are probably more likely to get Alzheimer's.

I'm assuming it's related to the link between aluminum and Alzheimer's?
