when I was pg with ds it felt like broken glass in my nipples....I was also worried about about m/c with nursing, but it sounds like you have already btdt...Ishould just relax...i couldn't deny ds his milky milks anyway
post #4 of 29
Yesssss.....but thankfully it's only bad when he first latches on. I'm trying to get him to slow down the frequency of his nursings by telling him that the milkies are sick, and he seems to be understanding and letting up on me at least a little bit.

It's a little uncomfortable. She only nurses to sleep at this point-usually 3x in 24 hours but I would like to wean her soon. I'm nervous about a m/c although Kellymom says there is not link between nursing and miscarriage. I also just feel pretty ready to wind it down. I feel good about nursing for 16 months and hope in the next 1-3 months to finish completely.

Yeah, my boobs are a bit on the sore side. Personally, I'm hoping DS self-weans at some point here (21 months now)... though I'm in no hurry. Mostly, I'm just not sure I want to tandem. You know??
Oh gosh, yes. DD is really sick right now as well and nurses ALL NIGHT LONG. It's almost enough to push nightweaning, but she's only 13 months and she'll get better soon.

My nipples really started hurting at just about 6 weeks. It hurts SO badly when he first latches on, and then is somewhat painful the rest of the time. He doesn't nurse very often during the day, but he nurses off and on all night long. I really really want to work on night weaning him, but I don't think he's going to be very happy about that.

That's exactly how I feel, except my ds is 31 months. I think tandeming is beautiful, but I just don't think I have it in me. I'm already getting irritated at his nursing antics and sometimes constant whining about it, so I couldn't imagine having to deal with that on some level AND nursing a newborn. Plus I think I would like to have my body be left alone to "do it's magic" during pregnancy, instead of being pawed at every hour. But, he's still nursing at least 6 times a day(or something like that), and occasionally at night.... cutting him back to a 2 or 3 times a day schedule at this point seems unlikely. Maybe when my milk goes...but he is pretty passionate about his mama milk, so I wouldn't be surprised if he dry-nursed.

Jeez, I guess I sound really bitter about nursing my toddler. I'm trying not to be....but I guess I am sometimes. I just figured by this point he'd be down to 2 or 3 nursings a day. And he doesn't give up too easily when I tell him no, so it's frustrating.

so far no discomfort or soreness *knock on wood*

dd is 13 months and still nurses about 6 times over the course of a day/night. She's also cutting molars right now so a little extra nursey at night.

if she remains interested in nursing throughout the pregnancy I will try and go with it. I didn't really enjoy tandeming last time, so we'll see...

Still nursing my 16 month 5-6 times a day, mostly at night. I haven't noticed any soreness yet but I don't look forward to it. I just stopped pumping at work so although I would love to night wean I think the timing is bad. I would like him to nurse closer to 2.

me too! ds2 is 22mths (almost) I've already had the icky stomach though. no sore boobs though. I've not had them with any of my pregnancies though.

I am not too sore yet. A little, but not bad. However, my supply has definitely dropped. DS2 is 31 mo. I did tandem nurse him and DS1 for about 3 months, & obviously nursed DS1 through my preganancy w/DS2, but tandem nursing was HORRIBLE for me/us. I wish that I had known how awful it would be for me/us because if I had, I think weaning could have been a gentler experience. But I didn't know, and that's all there was to it.

I have no intention of tandem nursing this time, however. I think it can be a wonderful thing, don't get me wrong, it's just NOT for me. I had told DS2 about a month ago that nurseys are for waking up, going to sleep, and when I've been away for a long time (during the day) and he's been mostly fine with that - he had been nursing like 10x a day if I was around before I made that decision, too. But . . . he definitely stepped up the nighttime nursing to compensate. And he's trying to nurse for like an hour at a time now that my milk is going away. So I think I'm going to encourage further steps towards weaning in as compassionate a way as I can.

DH says he remembers me promising him I would NOT try to tandem nurse again last time !

My boobs are SO sore!! My 17 month old is nursing like crazy and I can barely take it any more. I feel like she is sucking my nipples raw. I never knew nursing could be so frustrating. Just needed to vent.

Oh and my nipples didn't start getting sore till probably 20-25 dpo.

I'm tandem nursing my almost-4-year-old and just-turned-2-year-old. I'm not experiencing much soreness yet, but that's never been much of a pregnancy symptom for me. I nursed through my second pregnancy without too much discomfort--hopefully this one will be no different!

It is sometimes a little..."pinchy," for lack of a better word. I'm curious how this will all play out in terms of my kids' nursing. I didn't lose my supply until really late in my second pregnancy, but my oldest was exactly 12 months younger than my youngest is now, so I suspect that I might be starting with a bit lower supply (because nursing 2-and-4-year-olds still doesn't quite measure up to nursing a 12-month-old, which is how old my son was when I got pregnant with my daughter).

mine are very sensitive it seems. I have night weaned my 21 month DS but he still needs them for nap time and somtimes odd hours of the morning lately like 5 am but i think he is getting his 2 yr molars. When does the milk dry up during pregnancy?
Not sore as of yet. Good thing, because I'd have a hard time working through that. Baby and I were both sick as dogs past two days with some stomach virus from hell. The night we spent throwing up together, she actually realized that titties were making her sick and so passed out without them at least three times. Of course, since then she screams if I unlatch her while she's sleeping. Still gives me hope for the future as I'm fairly realistic about needing to wean her before #2 arrives.

I've had to reposition/latch check dd a few times, not because it was sore, just uncomfortable. Also, twiddling is OUT. I just won't have it. But I'm committed to continued nursing, and looking forward to tandeming. I bought the 'Adventures in tandem nursing" book, and have stationed it by the bed to read sometime in the next 34 weeks. (Right after I finish the Harry Potter series... my life was really crazy when the last two were released, so I'm catching up now!)

I just started getting a little sore today. DS2 is 18 mos and I'm only 11 dpo. I'm kind of hoping he weans during pregnancy too, I don't think I want to attempt tandem nursing.

well if you have an obsessive nurser like mine--your bb's would have been hurting for the last 6 months and now have just about had it.

when I was nursing my dd and pregnant with ds they didn't start to hurt until the end of the 1st trimester and it would come and go. It kind of peeked around 20wks and then slowly dwindled....

sucks though.
