My pediatrician, while willing to work with a no-vax/selective schedule, is really pushing the issue, and I'm sick of hearing it every time I bring my 2 month old son in. He's especially pushing the Hib and Pneumoccocal vaccines. Basically, when I mentioned I was leaning towards a delayed and selective schedule (which now I'm leaning towards no-vax at all) he told me anyone can write a book (in this case Dr. Sears) nowadays and that doesn't make it true. He also said waiting until after my son was 2 yrs old to vaccinate was virtually pointless, since the risk is greatest under 2 yrs of age.
But he DOES have patients that do decide on not vaccinating, and he doesn't turn them away.
I have two cousins with autism, and another relative that had a direct reaction from vaccines. I feel strongly about this, and while my pedi argues me that those studies proving the relation to autism and vax are false, I just don't believe him. (He even has a news article up posted in the waiting room on how there is no connection).
I would prefer someone that is against vaccines (if it is at all possible to find such a Dr.!) or at least more supportive/less judgemental of my decision.
Problem is, I am having a real hard time finding anyone with my mindset in this state! I just moved to MD from NH a few months before my son was born, and found people generally more accepting of the "green" thing and no-vax issue in New England than here.
Does anyone know of any Dr's that would work with me? Particularly ones that tend to look at other ways to treat things before resorting to drugs? (Am I asking the impossible?) I no longer trust my pedi after he tried pushing acid-reflux meds on my baby without discussing ANY other alternatives first (I researched them online- come to find out, there ARE other things I can try first!), and turns out my son most likely may have a food allergy!
Sigh.
Oh, and if anyone from MD has info about the exemptions/laws etc for this state before the child enters school, that would be SO helpful (I have some info on it, but could always use more) Though I am considering homeschooling...
Thanks,
Kristen
