Does this sound like an allergic reaction?

My 11-month-old DD has a full-body rash -- small white and red bumps, very itchy, covering every part of the body except hands, feet and the diaper area. She can't stop scratching, and she's waking every hour or so at night. It's been getting worse over the past four days. I've been slathering her in shea butter to no avail. Tried Benadryl for nighttime, but it didn't seem to help.

I would like to take her to the doctor today, but we have a two-day holiday here and his office is closed.

So my question is -- does this sound like a food allergy, or a viral type of thing? She has also had diarreah for the past few days, but is nursing a lot.

Any comments appreciated.

Have you switched detergents lately? It could be a contact dermatitis type rash. That's itchy (though wouldn't explain the diarrhea). It could be viral (is she vaxed?) or a food allergy/intolerance. Any fever?

Thanks for replying. Haven't switched detergents, and we use an all-natural one. She is not vaxed. I'm thinking it could be viral. Food allergies don't normally cause a sudden, full body rash ... or do they?
