What about exercise videos for Mommy?

I'm already planning to have our children become TV free (we want a TV with TiVo in our room so we can watch things after bedtime) and have a DVD player in the family room for family events later on.

However, I love certain exercise videos...and the only time I would be okay to do them is during the day-time. (I can't sleep if I workout too late) What do I do with the baby? (and later on: the toddler?) Is it bad to have this on during the day for the 30mins or whatever?

We are mostly TV now (ds gets 1/2 hr before I get up in the morning). I am planning on getting some exersise dvds soon and am planning to get him to do them with me.

I recommend getting a good stroller (or sling/carrier) and taking the babe with you on a walk. Getting outside will be great for you both. In addition, it will keep your workout routine from getting repetitive and stale. Save the DVDs for icky weather days and do them during naptime. For toddlers, get a yoga ball. There are a million core/strength workouts to do with them and my kiddo loves to play with it. HTH.

Maybe find an exercise videos that you and your toddler can do together? For instance, yoga. I used to do exercises with my older child doing them with me. She loved the times we spent together and sometimes goofed around.

You obviously don't live where we do. We have already had 3 feet of snow. Walking is out until March.

I use exercise DVD's--put them in the computer; no TV. I like to walk, but find that mixing it up with some weights helps the old arms from getting too terribly saggy. Plus, I just LIKE them. My kids will sometimes come in a "watch." I invite them to join in (sometimes they do), or get out (usual choice). There aren't commercials, no social commentary, not cursing, no violence, so I don't care too much if kids see them, I just don't like to be stared at while I stumble around in my uncoordinated fashion. Not really terribly interesting, really!
