I was raised full-gospel, brimstone and hellfire, mom was a missionary to Israel... and I never felt it. I've been going to my UU church since mother's day with my two boys, 9 and 6.5. I felt home from the first service. I'm more than happy with it. I actually look forward to it during moments of stress during the week because it's so calm and welcoming. I follow these threads, but will pipe up when I feel I have something to offer.

Congratulation rockportmama!

Does the UU do something special to welcome/celebrate new babies?

The Lutheran church I grew up with did infant baptism. It was usually done outside of the service with only the family and those the family invited to share in it.

UU does Child Dedications. The rather sterile (IMO) description on the UUA site does not begin to convey how amazing a child dedication can be. ~max~ and I describe our children's (very different) dedications in the prior thread in posts 144 and 146.

I've just been asked to take part in a Solstice service for this Sunday. It's short notice but the ministerial intern asked that ds and I take part in it. I'm really touched! This is the first acknowledgement of paganism in this particular church. Yay!

Hello everyone!
Dd and I joined our local UU congregation a year and a half ago, though we're not consistent in our attendance. And since dd still wants me to stay during her RE classes, I get to hear more of the children's RE than the actual services (which I love).

I generally identify as pagan but come from a pretty liberal United Church background and got married through one.

THAT IS AWESOME!!!!

I'm glad we have a pagan friendly minister and a very very active CUUPS group at our UU church. Whenever she mentions god she always quickly floows with goddess, buddah and any diety that might be present. LOVE it.

I jsut can't wait for Saturday. The man and I are getting married in our UU church in the afternoon. We were handfasted on Solstice of 1999 and this will be our 9 year anniversary and we will be gettingmarried. In our church. It just feels so perfect to do this with our UU family!

I had my wedding in a UU congregation. I don't attend often but my heart lies with them.

My layperson\officiant is Wiccan (Pagan). She is also NFL!!! She BF'ed her kids to age 2 and beyond (we were talking about it when I was still in final plans for the wedding). She is awesome, we even ended up on each others facebook that's how friendly we ended up with each other.

Unfortunately for me, time and being able to drive there (I don't drive) are a big problem for me. Hubbs work schedule doesn't help (two weekends a month off, works 12 to 16 hrs a day). I wish I had more ability to get there and there is no local UU congregation, I would have to make a 1 hour drive there and 1 hour drive back (or more). It's in the next city over from us.

My wedding was a full Pagan rituals and rights wedding. If anyone wants the PDF of the ceremony to see it I'd be happy to email it to you!

Me too! I will. We were handfasted 9 years ago on the solstice, have been through absolute hel and back together and this time we are doing it in church. And we are so happy!

Our minister is a big fan of Rumi's poetry and we are incorporating some of that into the ceremony.

I'll post to pics and stuff afterward! I'm still just so thrilled!

Turns out that we can't take part in the service after all. We are going to get hammered with snow this weekend.

MommyStormRaven- Hope your wedding is lovely!

It was thank you!

From our minister as commented on my FB Page:

Quote:
I felt that you two (OK all 5 of you!) really blessed our space with your heartfelt, earthy & simple but beautiful ceremony.. I have performed weddings that cost WAY too much money & time & did not have one-half the magic. Really says something.

And what a blessing to hold both a newborn baby & the ashes of my dear friend Martha within he same day. Thank YOU!
My "maid of honor" got to the ceremony within minutes of it beginning, she had given birth to her new DD less than 24 hours before then, she had not even gone home from the hospital and drove herself everywhere (Baby's father died some months back - PTSD after being in Iraq drove him to suicide), and then we had the wedding which was followed immediately by a memorial service for a very dear friend of everyone that was at/in the wedding who was an Ifa Priestess. Indeed, a truer manifestation of seeing how the Wheel ever turns was living in the spirit of that day. Given the death of our friend Martha and the absence of my own parents who crossed over in January and May of this year we took a moment for silence and invited them to be with us for the ceremony. I'll post links to all the pictures once I have them!

Thank you so much!
