Excersise or not

Hey all. So my midwife said that pregnancy is not a time to start a new excersise routine as you can stress out your tummy muscles etc. but my previous excersise consists of chasing goats, chickens, and baby girls and thats about it. I had a C section with #1 and never tightened my tummy muscles back. I am afraid if I don't start doing something that I wont be able to push. ANy suggestions? WHat are you doing excersise wise?

I was jogging and doing pushups, we have been snowed in for a month already, so no jogging(I have to take ds in stroller)
I am thinking about getting a rowing machine, good whole body workout...until my belly gets in the way...lol
I can use the gym in Feb when dh gets back..treadmill for walking

btw pushups are great for abs, plank too

I am going to walk. With my first pregnancy I went into it already exercising, but I have been a slacker since my first was born.

I am doing:

* callanetics-but no stomache excercises for first three months
* yoga - just a little and gentle
* oriental dance - I am teacher and performer...

I'm a runner but for the last two weeks its been icy where we are right now (Ohio) so I haven't had a chance. When we move in another week or so to Florida I plan on picking my routine back up slowing (maybe speed walk the first couple days.) I don't want to overdue it but I'm torn because I everyone says birth is like a marathon and I feel in some respects I should be "training" for it.

We're thinking of getting one of those too ... which ones are you considering? We've been looking at the Total Gym lately.

Callanetics? Really? Like Callan Pinckney?
I've never met anyone else who does those exercises!!!
Well, count me as, have done those exercises, it's been a little while. But yay!!!

I used to lift weights quite frequently and spin so I may do some light weight training and some cardio. Walking and yoga are always nice!

I posted a new thread as I didn't see this one but, I'm doing a 2 week long bootcamp right now. I don't plan to go so hard as I would have if I weren't pregnant. I think I might do some light jogging and sign up for a yoga class too.

I used to run 32 miles a week until I hurt my knee really badly a couple of months ago Now I do yoga very infrequently but will have to stop that because the place I go to is a "hot yoga" place where the whole studio is basically a sauna with a bit less steam and I heard that's bad while pregnant. I'm not sure if it's a big craze in North America, but here in Asia "hot yoga" is all the rage- I actually liked it, it's very relaxing and stimulating at the same time and it's nice in the fall and winter.
I'll be starting my Shiva Rae prenatal Yoga dvd whenever it gets here in the mail and I do a lot of walking and hiking if my knee is up for it.
I'm a little down because I'm not in the top shape I was a few months ago, and I'm starting this pregnancy off with a few more extra pounds than I'd like. And if I'm any thing like the women in my family I'll be a huge bumblebee in no time- we're all short and short-waisted.

If my doc gives me a big pos tomorrow I'll be discussing my options with her... I'm over 50 pounds overweight (i know you cant see it in my pics, its mostly in my chest/arms and legs) and know I need to lose bad weight while gaining good weight to avoid GD

This WebMD article is helpful: http://www.webmd.com/baby/features/e...y-myth-vs-fact

I plan to continue running as long as it's comfortable, and swimming and doing a yoga/pilates class that I love. I already spoke with the instructor and she said yoga and pilates (at least what's done in this particular class) are fine throughout pregnancy.

I too could afford to drop 40 pounds and since I went back to school this semester my work outs have gone from 3 days a week to nothing... then I started this bootcamp to kick start things but I assumed I was not pg when I signed up. I really hope I'm doing the right thing by sticking with it.

Before Thanksgiving I was at the gym 4-5 days a week. Kiddos and I got sick and then this week excuse....TIRED!

I take Zumba classes and ride the eliptical alot!!!

I will be doing both, just taking it easy if I get to tired!

I walk 2miles/day to get to and from work. I do that 5 days a week and usually walk fast to get the heart rate up. I also go to the gym 3-4 times/week and have been for the past 4 years...although with this nausea and fatigue...it's been more like 1-2x/week recently.

It's hard for me to be ok with not going to the gym as often right now, but it's just too hard. Once I'm feeling better I'll ease back into it, and I can't wait.

so it seems like a lot of us are sort of starting a new routine during pregnancy. So that is ok then? What kind of situppy things are OK? I love the plank pose suggestion.
