Anyone's non-vaxed kid get a VERY mild case of chicken pox?

DD has not had the varicella vaccine. She has what appears to be four chicken pox on her leg. Even her doctor agrees that it really looks like chicken pox. However, she has had no fever, appears to be feeling fine, and has not developed any more spots. The spots first appeared Monday evening.

On Nov. 19-28, we were around MIL who had shingles just prior to our visit. The timing would be right for that to be the cause of DD's outbreak.

But if it really is chicken pox, it is incredibly mild. Has anyone else's child had such a mild case? Will she be immune now?

No, it hasn't happened to me. But I was wondering . . . how old is she?

Well, my son-in-law had it so mildly that he had not one pox that his mother or he were aware of. Yet when he was checked for cp immunity, he had it. Full immunity.

My ds had CP last week. He got 5 spots on Tuesday, about another 50 or so on Wednesday and that was it. No fever.

I had no clincial signs at all of CP when I was a child but titres show I have adequate antibodies to be considered immune.

My non-vax'd 11yr old need a blood test for something and so I asked them to run the titers and the doc told me that he was immune to CP! I was shocked, he had never (that we knew of) had the pox!!!

I chatted with a mom of a vaccine-free child who had the opportunity to get the child's titers checked and said her child showed immunity to most childhood infections even though the child had never really been sick.

I caught the CP as a kid from my friend who had about 5 spots on her whole body...I was covered from head to toe...go figure!

I have know alot of kids who got cp mildly and weren't vaxed. Of course I wasn't one of them lol. I looked like I had exploded with cp lol.

Dh was ill a few years ago with a fever of unknown origin and very high wbc. So we were doing some blood tests (more like dracula got happy lol) but he came back immune for a whole bunch of stuff he never knew he had and was never vaxed for. I've since exposed my kids to cp and they never got them so I have to wonder if they will have the same immunity as dh.

When I was little, I had a very mild case of chickenpox. I had chickenpox again a couple months later and it was not mild, but I guess regular. This was in the 80s.

My daughter got an extremely mild pox. She didn't even have a blister. We exposed them at a party and at around day 6, she and my youngest son had small whelts on their abdomens that went away. Then, at 14days, my youngest son broke out in blisters and my daughter didn't have any. So, she got exposed as was shown on day 6, but didn't actually break out. I wonder if she still got immunity also.

I had an extremely mild case of chicken pox- no spots. My brother had it at the same time and had two spots.

We were both fully immune I guess because when our younger sisters got tehm years later neither of us did.

when my daughter was three her preschool got a case, she was one of two unvaxed kids and the only one not to get the pox. weird. I am wondering now if maybe she got them just a really mild case, or if her nursing kept her form getting it since I'd already had them.

My oldest was born before the vaccine was approved in the US. He had a very mild case of CP at 8 months, after his babysitter's 3 kids had them.

My friends LO just broke out in a few spots that were confirmed to be cp. Very mild case and apparently it spread to her siblings who also only had a few spots... my 2yo dd was around them within the 2 weeks previous. She ran a strange fever for two days until today. No spots but I'm wondering like others here if it's possible that she caught it and her body has been fighting it resulting in fever but no spots... she has had this type of thing happen before. Fever but nothing after that which can be seen. Hmmm.

Good luck to the OP!! I hope your LO has gained immunity!!

When I was a kid I had chicken pox twice. First time only about 50 or so spots- then full blown 2nd time- and never had the vax.
My sister got it 3 times. First time like 20- 2nd time about 100, then 3rd time full blown at age 11.

While researching not vaxing I discovered that just being exposed enough times can help you develop immunity to certain things...even if you never get symptoms.

My DH had a REALLY mild case of CP and has since turned out fine (with immunity as far as we know) Everyone's body reacts differently
