Actually they won't see whether the kids who got cp are vaccinated or not.

At least I can't make it out.

But it is totally idiotic. The kids who got the cp vaccine can go back to school although the vaccine sheds for a while.

Well, at least that will keep it going.

But those poor unvaccinated kids. They may never get back to class?

is it just me or does this article have the tone of "chicken pox is a DEADLY disease" AAAHHHH!!!???

OMG!! KIDS MIGHT GET CP!! KEEP EM OUTTA SCHOOL!!!

Ok, that mama was either misquoted or misunderstood the difference bt cp and shingles. Shingles is normalish in older people, CP however is what she should worry that her kids may get after puberty.

(This is part of why I am planning to homeschool.)

I know it doesn't say X number of kids were vaccinated but they way they worded it confused me

yep the article has the " CP is deadly, it is going to get you!" tone to it..

Does anyone how long this this policy has been in place? Does all states do this when there are outbreaks? Just wondering..
I believe all states do that. But they have to provide a teacher for those kids who have to stay at home. And they can't lump them together or it would be considered a cp party. Even if NONE of the kids have chicken pox. It is totally insane!

But what if I want my kids to get CP? I guess being stuck at home would guarantee that we had time for a pox party, .

Since when is the chicken pox labeled an "outbreak"??? is it an epidemic?? My goodness. When we got the chicken pox as kids we were kept home, nursed back to health and sent on our way. Better yet, our parents took us to the beach and one dip in the ocean cleared those suckers right up! We have already decided that we are planning a beach trip as soon as the pox hit our household! Goodness...an outbreak!!!

I was just talking to a mom today about cp. I sort of walked in with the conversation going and asked her if she knew she had to go back for boosters. She got that deer in the headlights look and said she knew, but she was so worried about her kids getting shingles later, because she read they can get in the eye and cause blindness, that she chose to vax against it. But the look she had told me she had no idea about having to go back or anything else about the vax. I have a feeling if she knew I didn't vax, she'd stop her kids from playing with mine. She had made a comment to some one a few weeks ago when there was this coughing cold starting like "What, didn't they vax thier kids?". I just looked at her.
oh, I had cp as a kid too, and it was a stay home and rest thing. No big deal. My sis had measles at 4 months, so.....and she's fine. I don't know when cp became this horrible horrible thing.

1) 8 Children is an outbreak? Since when???

2) The children have to stay out of school for 21 days if they aren't vaccinated...Why? To protect the other children THAT HAVE BEEN VAXED? What's the point in getting the shot if you're going to have "bubble kids" and not let them get exposed?

"I have to go with my gut instinct and my heart and not give them this vaccine because I'd feel really bad if I gave them this vaccine and they didn't get the chicken pox right now, but in 20 years, 30 years, they got seriously ill from shingles," Saari said.

But according to doctors, it's not the vaccine but the actual virus that can lead to shingles later in life. In rare cases, chicken pox can also be fatal and typically killed 100 people per year in the United States before the introduction of the vaccine.
Dear Docs, That's what she said. She didn't say that the vaccine would cause it. She said not developing a natural immunity would put them at risk. Thanks for making her sound stupid.

Can I add something else? If 100 people died from CP each year prior to the vaccine, how many are still dying from CP and how many are dying from the vaccine or complications due to it??? A hundred people in a population of like 4 billion really seems kinda small to me...just a peasant here though...who am I???

None. At least, that's what doctors, coroners, and the gov't will have you believe.

One reason they freak out over outbreaks now is because kids are actually getting CP and giving it to each other, whereas before, all kids got CP and many were immune already. So, if one kid in the 3rd grade got it, only those who weren't immune would get it. Now, it's hard to say whether anyone is actually immune and an entire class can come down with it. Pre-vaccine, most kids had it younger, but due to the broader reach of CP, fewer kids would be exposed in any one given outbreak--so, one school would be hit less hard.

This vaccine is especially crazy!

Now that there is a vaccine and it is considered a VPD, it is treated as one sadly The health department MUST be called if the school or doctor see a case and then everyone who is not vaxed and at risk must be quarantined by staying home. So rediclous but that's the way it rolls now.

I am going to look for a pox party soon and really debating if I will bring DS into the doc to get it charted or just let it go and hope the issue doesn't arrise in school. I want it in his chart so that we can get a note saying he is immune but I don't want the health department called.

I just got a letter from our Alberta Health Services. They say that if your child develops chickenpox, whether or not they have been vaccinated, it is important to report it to a Public Health Nurse. It's even bolded and stands out in the letter. The info is supposed to be for decision making ov the need for future doses of the vaccine.

In the next paragraph it says that this vaccine protects about 97% of healthy people against CP.
