older children w/ suspected tongue tie

Longtime lurker needs some encouragement! So we've been working on healing allergies (mine and my two ds) for a long time, and I've gotten a lot of input on these boards, so thank you.

I was very intrigued by the Tongue Tie threads, and it may fit my sons (ages 8 and 4). We have been on GAPS diet/protocol for a year, leaving out lots of the allowable GAPS foods b/c of intolerances/allergies. We've also dealt with mold in our new home (now fully remediated) and at my kids' new school (where I worked and was affected too) in the last year (we now homeschool). It's been a tough year. In addition to EFT, homeopathy, Kundalini yoga for dealing with emotions/clearing blockages, including as many healing foods as possible, we have been working with a doctor who uses homeopathy, accupressure and NeuroModulation Technique for about six months, specifically to detox from the double mold exposure, but I've also brought a lot to the table with GAPS ideas for healing food allergies.

We've all definitely improved (moodiness, poops, etc) but a lot of the kids' allergies/intolerances have not budged. I have healed enough to have SCD homemade yogurt a few times a week - the first dairy besides butter in eight years! All good, but I'm wondering if TT is a big piece of the puzzle, of why their healing is so slow. TT sure fits a lot of the descriptions here - neither can touch the roof of their mouths with their tongue with open mouth, older son can't say "th" sound. Younger son has the v in bottom front teeth. Both had struggles with thrush while nursing. Younger one had "disorganized suck" prompting me to take domeperidone, worked really hard at nursing. I'm frustrated that this was overlooked when he was a newborn, I saw LC twice a week b/c he had slow weight gain, saw midwives. And my older ds still has sleep issues, what is the connection w/ sleep apnea?

Well...I called the LC who works with Dr Coryllos (Cathy Watson-Gemma) and a woman listed in the TT sticky (Dr Penny Soppas - closer to us in Philly). Watson-Gemma said Dr C doesn't see older patients, to call other doctor, who said she just refers older kids to ENT or oral surgeon. Just because they are 8 and 4 (and nursed 3+ years each, which I'm damn proud of, w/ thrush and food allergies and all), I feel like I'm not being taken seriously.

I have an appointment with our holistic pediatrician, and I'm thinking of calling the CST I'd like to eventually use to ask if she has any input. My dh is getting frustrated because of $$ issues, but I can only do so much healing/learning alone. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I'm subbing. After those other threads, I turned my kids upside down and really looked in both their mouths (ages 5y and 2y7m) and both have the arch-shaped palate with the ridge down the middle. Both of mine nursed fine, gained great, didn't have the typical problematic stuff, but I think my older has weaker digestion overall, I am wondering about that peristalsis thing. And I've wondered for a while about my husband and sleep apnea, but I think he needs to lose weight before we can see if it's still an issue (my older seems very similar to my husband). I'm considering GAPS for us, too, probably sometime next year after a couple things settle down. Anyway, I have nothing helpful to add, just a "me too" to the questions and concerns.

reevemama are you still around? what did you find out abt TT? My ds and dh recently had there's done. the guy did not want to cut my dd2 who is 3 b/c it is not pleasant. he wanted to wait 6 month to see if her speech improved. i was hoping that this summer when we are in NYC i would find somone to cut it with laser b/c that heals better.
