Hep B and safety for infants

Hepatitis B vaccines have been shown to be very safe when given to infants, children or adults (CDC, 1991 a; Greenberg, 1993). More than 20 million persons have received hepatitis B vaccine in the United States and more than 500 million persons have received the vaccine worldwide. The most common side effects from hepatitis B vaccination are pain at the injection site and mild to moderate fever (Szmuness, 1980; Francis, 1982; Zajac, 1986; Stevens, 1985; Andre, 1989; Greenberg, 1993). Studies show that these side effects are reported no more frequently among those vaccinated than among persons not receiving vaccine (Szmuness, 1980; Francis, 1982). Among children receiving both hepatitis B vaccine and diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP) vaccine, these mild side effects have been observed no more frequently than among children receiving DTP vaccine alone (CDC, 1991 a; Greenberg, 1993).

I remember hearing on Sherri Tenpenny's video that Hep B was not tested for safety with infants, that it had been tested on 5 and 10 year olds.

I have also read in the archives about there being no safety trials.

I am just wondering if there is a mix up in definition of safety trial... this source seems to consider the fact that there are no reactions beyond what is seen with DTP, so therefore the vaccine is safe?

I was just wondering if anyone has more specific info on this issue.

TIA

I think it wasn't tested on infants prior to licensure. Whether there have been any safety studies on infants since then I don't know.

And DTP was highly reactive, so I don't see the Hep B vaccine = as safe as DTP as "safe".

Are you surprised?? Look at who is making the safety claims??

The HeP B vaccine is often linked to rheumatoid athritis. vasculitis, encephalitis, and various neuropathies and others . There are over 200 reports in the medical literature of harm caused by this vaccine.

It is also my understanding that the Hep B vaccines have never been tested for safety in infants. There have been no long term studies at all. In 1999 the Executive Director of the AAPS Jane Orient MD said that the deaths fand adverse reactions rom the Hep B vax were "vastly under-reported" and that formal long-term studies of vaccine safety had not been completed. IMO the safety tests for all vaccines are a joke since they are all tested against ANOTHER VACCINE. There are no double blind, placebo contolled safety tests out there.

Agreed. DTP does not = safe measure when testing for safety. :

Basically, based on what I had heard on Sherri Tennpennies video and from what I remember reading, I told a friend there have been no safety studies on HepB and based on that info she did not vax. I am feeling awful and very responsible as she knows *nothing* about vax and I really do not want to be making her decisions for her. That is her responsibility.

I wanted to find something to show her and then just let her take it from there...... with a word of caution that she must not trust anyone until they give their sources (me included)

The whole no double blind placebo controlled studies thing is one of the reasons I have not chosen to vax DS - well one of the reasons that supports me being wary of vax.

Thats why I don't discuss vax with people, because its their responsibility. I don't mind helping people find the info but I am not educating them. That sounds bad but ykwim.
