Freezing burritos

My kids have taken a liking to Amy's brand frozen burritos, which are a nice easy thing to have for a quick, microwavable, lunch. DS1 has a milk allergy, and the Amy's beans and rice burrito is dairy free! But, the cost can add up. I'd like to make a big batch of beans and rice burritos and freeze them individually. I'm a little concerned about whether they would freeze well. Would the buriito wrapper get all soggy? Any tips from anybody who makes and freezes their own burritos? Anybody have a good rice and beans burrito recipe to share? We are bracing for a possible lay off for DH, so I'm trying to be a lot more frugal in the kitchen.

Many thanks in advance,
Cyclemama

We make and freeze burritos all the time. I simply roll up the burrito, roll it into a foil wrap and freeze. We reheat in a toaster oven and they are delicious. I make about 50 at a time and put them in ziplock bags.

ETA: We put cheese in ours in addition to beans and rice and it all freezes well.

My mom makes and freezes breakfast ones--sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, and cheese wrapped in a tortilla and then wrapped in foil. Reheat in the over or toaster oven and the tortilla doesn't get soggy. Great for breakfast and lunch on the go.

I think it's the microwave reheating that makes the wrapper soggy.

I make breakfast burritos. I wrap them in plastic wrap.

When I'm ready to eat them, I unwrap, place under a paper towel (at work) or cloth napkin (home) and microwave until hot.

Use cold ingredients to keep the tortillas from getting soggy as they freeze. So make a big batch of beans and a big batch of rice and stick them in the fridge overnight before assembling.

I just roll them up and put them seam-side down on a cookie tray in the freezer. Once they're frozen I toss them in a ziplock and label them. To reheat, wrap in a paper towel and microwave for 1:45.

If they do get soggy just put some salsa on top, then you won't notice.

I made a few chicken/bean/cheese burritos the other night to freeze for post-partum meals. The prep and freezing parts have gone well - but I'm not sure what to do about the re-heating! We don't have a microwave so they will have to be re-heated in the oven. I would consider them to be a fairly standard size - 12" burrito tortillas with probably a little over 1/2 c. of filling each. They are wrapped in foil. What do you ladies recommend for a temperature/length of time to heat from frozen? TIA!

I heat my foil-wrapped burritos in a toaster oven. It takes them about 15 - 20 minutes from a frozen state in a 350F/180C toaster oven.

I'd say 350 for as long as it takes to get them warm, which I'd guess at 35 minutes maybe?
