Is my son at risk?

My son is not vaxx'ed, which has caused a rift in my DH's family. His niece's baby IS vaccinated and has a doctor's visit coming up, apparently. She's about nine-and-a-half months old. Is it possible she could be getting any vaccinations at that appointment that might put my son at risk? My FIL is hosting a Christmas party that might bring the two kids together. TIA.

I think the problem would be if she gets any live vaccines because those shed.

I guess that's what I'm referring to. Would she get any live virus vaccines at that age?

She shouldn't if she has already been vaccinated on schedule. If she hasn' t and they are "catching up" I suppose she may get another rota vax the final dose is usually given at 6 months...this vax sheds.

I'd be surprised if she's not on schedule. Thank you!

Right. I think the next live vaccines would be Varicella and the MMR. But those are scheduled after a year.

Your child is well over two. So even if she would get a live virus vaccine, I wouldn't worry about it. We always come in contact with newly vaccinated people one way or another.

Yeah, my now 7 year old son has spent his whole life around other kids all the time, we have a bit of a communal backyard...and there is all ages of children around... and they have had plenty of live vaxes... We don't worry.

Yes, most likely it would just be the Rotovirus vaccine (which is an oral drop). Roto can be a pain (and you have to watch out for dehydration), but CDC says about 90% or more people get it anyways. Basically, the first time getting it is the worst, then each time after that it builds up your immunity to it.

My kids have only been around vaxed kids. They have yet to get a VPD from them even after being exposed to a newly vaxed 1 y/o with MMR and CP.

Also, the shedded vaccine interacts with the first line of defense which is way easier on the immune system than being injected right into the blood stream.
