I too am a SAHM and I work weekends as an RN and yes grandma does take the girls for a day to give me a break like once every couple of months. I personally do see anything wrong with a child staying overnight if they agree with it and the parents are ok with it and it is a safe environment. I was talking about excessive use of shipping the kids away for things like going out drinking at night....
I must have missed that because I didn't see anything referring to that scenario. Will remember to find better reading glasses.

Never. My oldest is almost 5 and I think he would get really scared if either my DH or myself was not there with him. He does sleep in his own room, but he calls out to us at night if he needs us.

No need to find reading glasses. I guess what I was talking about was sleeping over is fine, as long as it is not abused (like people partying all the time and having the kids leave) Never mind....I don't think anyone is understanding me anyway........

My older daughter started asking to sleep over with family (she was encouraged by her 7 year old cousin) at almost 3 and would probably spend the night elsewhere several times a week if she had her way! There's ice cream and movies at her aunt's house.

My younger daughter isn't quite 2 1/2 and isn't ready for it. Honestly, though, I can't wait until she wants to sleep over with her sister and cousin. A night alone with my husband? Sleeping late and engaging in spontaneous adult-like activities? It will be glorious, I tell ya!!

My kids are 5 and (almost) 2 and have never spent the night in another person's house without us. And, for the future as far as I can see, it won't happen for quite some time. We just have no need to...neither of them have babysitters, we take our kids everywhere we are going, and both have special needs. Oh, and both stink and sleeping. :

DS *has* stayed overnight with his grandfather, in our house, when I was in labor with Ryland, but it was our house. :
