Old Christmas movies

The thread about sad movies got me thinking about old Christmas movies. Back in the days when I was a teen, there were no VCRs for us regular folk (or maybe we were just poor) and most of the tv I watched was in the form of old movies they'd broadcast on tv. The Afternoon Movie at 4 was fun, and they showed a lot of movies with Christmas themes during Christmas.

One of them was about a woman working at a department store who found a baby and people thought it was hers, so she didn't lose her job. After I had seen that movie a few times, they actually played an earlier version of it with David Niven. I was able to look at David Niven movies on IMDb, and it was called Bachelor Mother with Ginger Rogers, and the remake was Bundle of Joy with Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher.

There was one about a family that adopted a child who later died, and Christmas was a theme. It was sad, but with a kind of hopeful ending, but I honestly cannot remember the name of it, and I'm not having any luck googling.

And we used to watch the old b&w versions of A Chirstmas Carol. Anyone have any oldies but goodies to add?

One of my favourite Christmas movies is called:

The Christmas Tree

A story about a forming friendship between an elderly nun, Sister Anthony, and New York's Rockefeller Center's head gardener Richard Reilly, who wants to fell a tree she's been growing for decades and move it to New York for Christmas display.

I can't remember how old this move is but I love it.

I also love:

Meet Me in St. Louis

Miracle on 34th Street

Not old but still Christmassy is Home Alone.

also not old but Love Actually
