Thank you both for your input!

My DH has tried several different slides and I think his favorite slide is an old Coricidin bottle or part of a sawed off handle bar from a bicycle. Has your DH said anything about the type of material that he prefers for his slide?
Sorry I am not much help. I just thought I would put in my 2 cents since my DH is a guitar geek.

this is definitely helpful!

in the ten years that i have known him, i cannot remember him using a slide (not much sliding in heavy metal, i guess), so i don't think he has a preferred material yet.

that's a good point though; i'll still buy the slide, but i'll keep it in mind to tell him that he's free to use something else as his mainstay. i'll have to measure my fingers to see if they'll comfortably fit the opening; his fingers aren't much bigger than mine (he has pretty delicate hands for a man of 6'1"

).

Having said that, I think it's a wonderful, thoughtful, fitting gift for your anniversary and you should go for it. You could always tell him that he's free to exchange it for another type if it turns out not to be a good fit. I think he will love it and I think it's very romantic, especially given that he got the guitar from his great-grandpa and therefore I'm sure it has lots of sentimental value as well as being a beautiful instrument. By getting the slide, you're adding to the sentimental value of it, in my opinion! Happy Anniversary!

Thanks! It
is very sentimental! He hasn't played it much yet, because he really needs to sit down and learn what to do with it, but he wants to. I told him a couple of weeks ago that he HAS to ask his great-grandpa for help NOW, because the man is 96, and he might not be here tomorrow! On top of that, he is writing a song for his grandkids to play at his funeral (quite a few of the grandkids play guitar), so he has to be ready to play that steel-guitar at any time.
Anyway, I am really excited about it. I'm also planning to get him this crazy guitar pick, just because it's awesome
