fleece covers

Thread Starter
I just started hearing about fleece covers. Are they just made of fleece or is there still a waterproof type liner/fabric in there? Or could I just put two layers of fleece together and made a waterproof cover? ( I did hear that if the diaper is saturated and pushed up against something that it will leak)

The fleece people use from covers is usually from Malden Mills and it's used by itself. It's not the regular fleece you get from Joann's-that kind WILL wick and will not be waterproof.

I've made fleece covers using fleece from joanns & katrina's free pattern. I pick fleece that feels thick & I use 2 layers in the wet zone (middle for dd). I don't leave dd in a diaper for more than 2hrs & have not yet had any wicking problems.

so I am interested in this too. Do you use them as pants or can she wear it like a normal cover under pants?

I discovered wool late in the game (but another one is on the way so I'm interested in learning more and planning to revamp my stash with recycled dipes this time!) I've been so impressed with how well wool works. Is fleece basically the same but synthetic?

Has anyone made fleece covers out of recycled fleece (i/e second hand clothing?) Or maybe thats too pilly already to be comfy?

I've made some covers with WindPro fleece (malden mills) and I Relaly like them, so do the people I've made them for. They stretch a little and yet are nice and waterproof. Mine has never leaked on me. It's a little pricey, but worth it imho.

I've never tried regular fleece, but don't think I'd bother now that I know this works so well. : )

My ds lived in his fleece covers all the time. Most of my fleece was just regular fleece. As long as you change them often enough you should be fine.

DD wears hers under pants, under a dress w/ baby legs, or if it is really cold under pants under a dress w/ baby legs

Malden Mills fleece is made differently than the Joann's fleece. MM holds up better to wetness. The Joann's fleece is made of plastic fibers, so thicker, two layers, heavier, is better. That also makes the cover/pants bulkier. Not an actual waterproof situation, just hoping the fibers are close enough together to not leak. Not my favorite. I've used the MM and thought it worked fine, but old wool sweaters from the thrift store work better for us.
