Names for Genitalia? - Page 3

We use bottom for most conversations, however we do use penis and vagina when need be!

We use vagina because we want others to understand what DD is saying

We call it the labia around here. DD understands there's a vagina in there somewhere.
sometimes, she calls it her "privacy." But she's fallen out of that since mama got so testy about not having enough privacy to make a poopie of her own.

a little OT, OP, i love your dd's name-Aventine! Just curious, do you say it "Aventeene" or "Aventyne"?

BOT

we say "vulva" because that is the term for what a child actually sees, and it's a nice blanket term for all the different parts, which i named as dd got older (around 2) She knows now, she's 6, that she has a clitoris, vulva, vagina, urethra, and anus (which she thinks is a gross word and so will only call it a butthole, lol)

my 11 mo old is learning about his bits, too, and i say "penis" for the whole package at the moment. will name testicles as he gets a little older.

We use penis and vagina here.

I tried to teach my 3yo DS about his scrotum and testicles but since my older (13yo DS) got to him first he insists that they are his balls. Oh well.

We also use "parts", "bits" and "junk" when we're being silly.

I know vagina isn't exactly the right word but it's what I was taught and it's just what came out when DS asked me what I had down there. I'll be a bit more precise and detailed with my DD.

We use the proper terms here too. So far we've only got to vulva (since that's the only part he can see on me!) and penis. DS just PL'd though, so I'm sure we'll get to the rest of his parts soon. I don't know if I should try to teach him foreskin yet though because he doesn't retract so its just one piece, as far as he can see.

I haven't read any of the replies (except part of one), so I will tell you what my mother taught me. She always said labia because it's the most obvious. She hated vagina because you can't even see it. Unlike the first person to reply, I do not agree that vagina is equivalent to penis. Penis is outside and the most obvious. It also includes the urethra, and all fluids pass through the same opening. Vagina's not the same.
I think the vulva's the most accurate, because it includes the labia as well as the mons pubis, but I think both those last terms are more clinical sounding, but maybe that's just me.
I always felt labia was enough and still think it's more accurate than vagina when discussing obvious/visible parts.
