volunteering?

I'd love to hear from those that volunteer? Do you know of a good website that I can look up opportunities in my own area? I had found a site a while back but forgot the name of it and can't seem to find it.

I'm most interested in volunteering with teens moms. I did this about 12 years ago and enjoyed it. There is an agency in our area that offers support to pregnant girls ages 11-17 but they have a waiting list. The lady said that two women are ahead of me and they just have to wait until a girl requests a mentor. This is what I *really* want to do but I realize I may not get to do it if there isn't a need.

Is there another area similar to the above that I can look for a volunteer position? I'm thinking big sisters but it seems like that's the first place most people go when volunteering to help out with young children.

Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

I know it's not quite the area you were thinking...but if you're looking for something you can do right now, there are lots of mothers in need (including a number of single mothers) on the holiday helpers....

sorta kinda - but not the same thing.

have you tried local hospitals? check their websites. you can turn in your application of where you would like to volunteer but it depends on what is open. i know i wanted to do kangaroo care with preemies. i had to work with mothers and babies before any openings were there at the neo natal unit.

what i have discovered is once you get into volunteering - you kinda network and find otu what is available out there.

This is where I'd MOST like to volunteer. But the main hospital in our town that accepts people to help with the babies/children stays full of volunteers. They do a training in April of each year and say they have so many that want the areas around children and babies that they need people for other areas of the hospital.
