I'm trying to find out if TriCare really will pay for homebirth. I've called tricare and they said with Standard, the mw has to licensed and then send in a request for authorization and then wait to be authorized and then yes, they will cover it. With Prime, you have to get a referral from your PCP.
But, I called a random local (I'm at Ft. Hood) midwife who says that a midwife in Corpus Christi got approved by Tricare, started accepting tricare clients, then a couple years later, tricare said "oops, our bad, you're not auth'd and now you owe us $42,000!". So now this other midwife isn't willing to deal with Tricare.
Does anyone know more about this? How do you REALLY have a homebirth covered by tricare?
