Spin-off Shop Canadian: Where to Buy X in Canada? - Page 2

I've bought bonito flakes IRL here:

It looks like they will ship if you email or call them.

I posted on the other thread but maybe different people are reading this one. Any ideas for where to order bulk herbal teas like Red Raspberry leaf or Red Clover Blossoms?

I think Richter's Herbs, but I'm not sure! http://www.richters.com/

eta: I just looked on their site - if you go under "Herbs", select "Raspberry" and you will see that is the dried leaves of the raspberry plant, which of course can be used to make RRL tea. Then there is "Clover, Red" which has the blossoms!

Thanks! Despite being tantalizingly close to a Japanese grocer, DH might not make it there while in Toronto, so I may still have to order online.

I'm looking for diaper covers, and BLAH overwhelmed by the choices...give me some great Canadian sellers? I think I want some pull-ons like Dappi covers, ...and cheap. Bummis did not work very well for me last time and were too pricey - Dappi's seem to be cheap and the pull-ons are well reviewed, just would rather purchase in Canada.

I'm looking for a non-plastic cooking/dish set, you know - pots and pans, plates, bowls, utensils etc.
Any suggestions?

Cheaper nursing tanks? Bravado at $50 is ridiculous. I hear alot about the great $15 Target nursing tanks, but no Target in Canada of course. Seen anywhere else?

eta: Looks like Motherhood Maternity has a selection.

I pm'd you, I'm not a fan of the motherhood tanks. Does your area put out Entertainment coupon books? Or coupon books for parents? I got a deal on some expensive bras that way.

PM'd you back, thanks.

I haven't seen coupon books like that, but I'll ask around!

I *think* MEC will order them for you if you don't see what you want...but I'm not totally sure about this.

Worth asking them, though, eh?

Ikea has stainless pots/pans for the kids plus cooking utensils. I'm kinda jealous, they are very sturdy and I'm positive I could use them
They will definitely hold up to my boys rowdy cooking.

Okay, so not exactly "Canadian" but can be found in Canada!

Try Motherease - I'm in the GTA, I had great customer service from them and the stuff arrived really fast. They have a website. If you want diapers, too, they do a trial pack at a reduced price, with a diaper, liner and cover. Not all options are listed on the website, but you can call and ask for the combination you want. I've only used their snap covers, and don't recall if they have a pull-on, but I liked the snap covers a lot. Not sure how cheap they were, though definitely not as pricey as some I saw.
Other places I've dealt with and would use again are JamTots (West coast) and Parenting by Nature (I think ON, not sure). They both had quite a good selection when I was looking (a couple of years ago!)

I have some toddler velcro Motherease covers - they're good, but it's really the pull-ons I want to try. I ended up ordering Dappi's from an American website, and she was kind enough to send my order (for those and some flannel cloths) in two which avoided a customs charge, and bizarrely made shipping cheaper.

I checked out Parenting by Nature a while ago, they look great! I will also check out Jamtots, thanks!

Sorry, just seeing this.
I was thinking of the Motherease snap covers (name eludes me), that can work as a pull-on (you might need to leave the bottom snap undone as you pull it on, and do it up after). But, I would guess the dappi are cheaper.
I thought there were no customs charges on diaper supplies. I remember having a problem with an order being delivered with taxes/duties/handling fee due on delivery, because she had labelled the package "fabric" instead of "diapers". I'm not sure I totally understand the system, though!

Oh, I had not heard about no duties on diaper stuff - actually, I could see it being exempt from GST/PST, but the customs handling duties? I doubt it! Who knows though - I have not been able to find out a reliable way to predict how much I'll get charged on any thing!

It should be 13% tax (or whatever is applicable in any given province/territory... here it would be 8% PST plus the 5% GST), and then a $5 handling fee if it came regular mail and a $8 handling fee if it came priority mail.

Of course that is is it was sent USPS... if it was sent FedEx or UPS you get brokerage fees as well and that jacks the price up considerably!

Edited to add: I meant to also say that the tax should only be charged if it's worth more than $20.00 or over $60.00 if it is a gift... if they charge it on a package that is less than that (and they sometimes do) you can get the amount you paid back, but you have to pay it first and then mail in a request I believe.
