Help! Need a novel I can sink my teeth into.

I'm lost without something great to read. I just finished "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" by Gregory Maguire, and I've also read most of his other books. I'm actually craving something kind of creepy in a futuristic, or maybe supernatural kind of way. Oh, and it should have a good love story, too. I've already read the Twilight series. Entertaining, but I do prefer adult stories. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!!

Have you read 'The Witching Hour' by Anne Rice? You might enjoy that.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. It's totally addictive and pretty spooky.

Have you read "the Road" Dh loved it. Its going to be coming out in theaters soon, its WAY too creepy for me, and i have heard its a really really intense book, but one of the best books ever.

Its about a post apoctoliptic world where a father is trying to protect and save his son......there is much more to it, but thats the quick summery. I know it was opras book club too.

right now I' reading "The Host" and it is good so far. Set in the future, definitely some sci-fi, but also a love story.
Plus, it's nice and thick, so you could take a big bite!

I was going to suggest The Historian. Have you read The Eight by Katherine Neville? It's a great deal of fun. Possession by A.S. Byatt also fits the bill for me.

I haven't read it yet

A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray (it's the first in a trilogy). It's YA but I so loved it and wish there had been 10 of them!

The Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon - especially recommended if you liked The Historian or The Thirteenth Tale (it's gothic and so very well written).

Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte. I just finished this a few weeks ago, it was great. (More of a love story.)

The Cell - Stephen King
Lisey's Story - Stephen King
Life of Pi - don't remember the author name

If you are into forensics (a bit dry at first but gets better) Time Of Death by Jess something or other (lol sorry) - it's non fiction and does mention the body farm and the studies and research they do there. It's a lot more about entomology and time of death sciences. Blow flies and bottle nose flies, cycles of their life, ect. Very CSI'ish.

Hearts In Atlantis, Stephen King
From The Corner Of His Eye, Dean Koontz

Those are a few favorites of mine. The second one is really creepy.

Creepy, delightful, supernatural, there's a love story but it's not focal to the book: Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. One of my faves!

Others that might work:

Asylum, Patrick McGrath
Faerie Tale, Raymond Feist
War for the Oaks, Emma Bull (heavy on the romance in this case)
Kushiel's Dart, Jacqueline Carey
Stardust, Neil Gaiman
The Magus, John Fowles
Nights at the Circus, Angela Carter
Waking the Moon, Elizabeth Hand -- or, even better, her later book Mortal Love

In fact, I think Mortal Love is the perfect book for your requirements! Creepy, fantastic, there's a strong romantic element, and it's just super-fun to read.

Try anything by Octavia Butler. She is amazing. I loved Fledgling. She writes about social issues in supernatural stories.

Neil Gaiman! Neil Gaiman!
Anansi Boys or Neverworld... enjoy!
Or read the Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman ... marketed to younger readers, but oh so brilliant! The Golden Compass movie did it no justice whatsoever. The trilogy is can't-put-down awesome!
