LTK vest - help me trouble shoot?

So like many people here I'm sure, I'm in a mad rush to finish my Christmas gifts for my kids, but of course the baby hasn't been sleeping at all so I'm way behind. I've made a mistake and I suspect that to fix it properly I'd have to undo a lot. I don't have time so I'm hoping some of you seasoned knitters could give me an idea of how to fudge it hopefully.

I'm at the part on the front where you cast off 2 stitches in the middle of the row to split for the V. I've done that row, but I've got an extra stitch on the right side where I'm supposed to be working the first side of the V.

So I've got 22 stitches on one side and 21 on the other side.

Is there a way to get rid of that extra stitch somehow without it being to obvious? I don't care if it's not 100% perfect, as long as I can finish it in time. It's for my 6 year old who adores knitted vests - He won't notice if it's a wee bit off.

I thought for sure I'd have the evening quiet tonite - I set up everything so perfectly - naps at just the right time, but the baby woke herself up after around 15 minutes of sleep and the 2 year old has no interest in sleeping. I can't concentrate on fixing stuff like this when they are up at all. The baby has been up until 1 am for days now.

THanks,

Heather

I don't have the pattern in front of me but my first thought would be to either knit 2 together on the one side or increase one on the lesser side. It's just one stich.

I have done several of those and if it was me I would just ignore it and have one extra stitch all the way to the top..... I do not think it will show at all. Other than that I would most likely knit 2 together at the arm side of the row (at the very edge) then when you pick up stitches to make the edging it will be hidden.

hope it helps.

Thanks, I ended up knitting 2 together at the beginning of the row. IT seems like it should work out fine - I'm just not super experienced, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks,

Don't fret! When you get to the bind off- decreases for the armholes just do one extra stitch on the first row of the side with too many stitches. It'll end up being under the arm and will never show.
Knit on!

Argh. I'm knitting this for a second time now. IT was so far beyond too small (my bad for not measuring, but he was sleeping and didn't want to wake him, so I just went a size bigger than I figured.

It turned out so small, and the gauge as far as I can tell was right. I guess he's big for his age? IT's smaller than the vest he has tho which is a 4-5 - I made the 6. So I'm making the 10 now and I"m goign to have to lengthen even that. My 2 year old is goign to get the small vest - I think it will fit her just fine. I'll just have to make it girly for her as she's very much a pink girl and it's blue I'm going to crochet around the edges instead of the ribbing with a lavendar color and then embroider some flowers and a moon (she calls the moon "noni noni". She is totally in love with the moon right now, so if it's got a moon she'll love it
