Georgia Dru Allen was born on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 12:13 AM. Labor was short. She is nursing very well. We are all doing well, including big brother Charlie. I will post the birth story later. I'm now suffering from migraines. Any suggestions?
Well, the migraines have ceased; I guess it was the influx of hormones. Georgia is still nursing well and sleeping beautifully, so well that I have to wake her to nurse. Here is our birth story:
On Dec 8, 3 days overdue, I went to my dr at 11 AM and was dilated only 2 cm. As we live an hour away, we decided to do some Christmas shopping and didn't get home until 3:30. We just sat down for dinner at 6 pm when I had my 1st contraction. I didn't think anything about it, until 5 minutes later I had another one. I kept getting up from the table because it hurt so bad. After about 4 contractions, we decided to start timing them and by 7 they were consistently 4-5 minutes apart, 45 seconds-1 minute in duration.
So we hopped in the car and drove the hour to the hospital. Since we were passing through 3 different counties on our way, we called 911 in each one to notify them that we were driving just a tad over the speed limit. Amazingly, we did not see one cop.
We arrived at the hospital at 8:15 pm and I was dilated 4 cm. So the admitted me (duh- I was obviously in labor!). At 9:45 I was almost 8 cm and I decided to get an epidural. That was not inserted until 11 pm and didn't fully kick in until 11:30 pm. At 11:45 the dr said I was ready to push. 30 minutes later, at 12:13 AM on Dec 9, Georgia Dru was born. She weighed 7 lb, 5 oz and was 19 inches. We could not believe how fast everything was!! We all (husband, mother, and I) felt like it was a dream. It really was a great labor and delivery (despite being in labor for 1 hour in the car).
Here are a few pictures. Hopefully they show up.
