I won't be considering seeing it till I think I can handle the stress, movies are just to much for me these days - or was it the whole ticker tape parade that did for your friend Hilary?

I wish I was there! As a fan of the books (like most people) I've been prety darn pleased with what a good job they did. And I think the soup-to-nuts operation in NZ ia a lot of why. The commentaries on the extended dvds are very interesting.

Thanks for the great pix!

I just found out today Viggo is 45. Did everyone already know this and I am just really out of it?

they originally cast a super young guy (very not tolkein) he was scrapped at the last minute for Viggo. Viggo is like superman! horses, swordplay, photos, music, poetry, there's more I'm sure. The renaissance man! He has an almost grown kid (who cameo'd int he movie if I'm not mistaken) Aragorn is 87 you know. They both show their age very well.

I am very sad ROTK deleted the Houses of the Healing scenes. The King being recognized because he was a warrior AND a healer (the hands of a king are the hands of a healer), and what that says about leadership, to me was such an important part of the Aragorn storyline.

They originally cast *can't remember first name* Townsend for Aragorn but he got canned when he had disputes about the character with Peter Jackson.

I am glad, I didn't like him as Aragorn at all, Aragorn isn't young in the books. And Townsend is kind of annoying, when I saw him in Queen of the Damned (which was a crappy movie) I couldn't see how they ever cast him in the first place.

I am hoping they add the Houses of Healing to the extended version but we won't find that out for a year.

But we are getting the Two Towers extended version in the mail any day now! YAY!

It takes me about two weeks to get through the extended editions, about an hour a day. I've had TTT a week so I'm almost done disk two's commentaries. A lot of what they include I am glad to see (the boromir/faramir/denethor scene for one) but some I did not like (eowyn's lousy stew) even though it gave good aragorn backstory. There some stuff I wish they'd release after all this is over (fighting arwen, eowyn the midwife, frodo flash as gollum-like monster) which I don't think are waiting for me on disk 3 and 4. The deleted final defeat of Saruman and wormtongue was not on TTT, they hoped to put it in ROTK but they cut it there too. I can only hope it's on the ROTK extended DVD. They do give you a small rebate ($5?) if you bought the theatrical DVD before the extended one was released, at least in the US.

is right! Loner or no, 45 is JUST PERFECT! Young boys just don't do it for me anymore, I think of their mothers .... :LOL . And I've always been one for the bad boys ...

Now for a dumb question: how the heck do you pronounce his first name? (I need to know what to moan at the right time ... :LOL )

Erm..Arwen doesn't fight, her strength lies in other areas. They already showed that by the parts with Elrond talking about her future. She knew her fate from the day she met Aragorn.

Why would Frodo turn into something like Gollum? Gollum had the ring for hundreds of years Frodo, a little less than 20.

I like Merry and Pippin myself..

Smilemomma,

It's pronounced VEE-go.

Happy moaning to you,

alsoSarah, (who fings Viggo quite delicious, but reserverves her true, sizzling case of the hots for Orlando Bloom.... minus the icky elf-blonde colored hair)

Not quite, actually...all the ones that I mentioned were actually filmed events that were left out. They rightly decided Arwen arriving at Helm's Deep went too astray, they originally were trying it because having your main romance seperated through the whole film was not selling well to New Line. They replaced it with the elrond.arwen.aragorn flashback. They were half way through Helm's Deep filming when they decided - apparantly they had to edit her out of a bunch of stuff. She was swinging a sword pretty good in the quick flash I saw. Eowyn helping the mom of the two refugeee kids birth a baby was to help personalize what they were fighting for at Helm's Deep...it was replaced by a montage of the refugees. And , as I haven't seen it except in a photo, it was probably a flash forward to an alternatete future for Frodo about what the ring might do to him. None of these are in the book, obviously, but they were filmed so I'd like to see them as outtakes, not edited into the whole movie...those in particular were probably left out for good reason. I also want to see the Saruman scene and the Houses of Healing, but those would probably edit into the movie ok. No point in wishing for stuff they never filmed (barrow wights, Tom Bombadil, Scouring of the Shire)

So I'm not completely insane here. I saw some things on some LOTR web sites, and others were side comments in the extended DVD.

I also prefer Orlando and I even like the hair too.

But Johnny the Pirate is the real deal. To steal a quote, he can swash my buckle anytime.

Oh, I see what you mean Clarity. I wasn't a big fan of fighting!Arwen. Eowyn acting as a midwife would't be so bad as she was pretty much acting as seneschal for the king so that really wouldn't be straying much from canon.

I agree, though the Houses of Healing is pretty important.

Alright, alsoSarah, I'm gonna have to fight you for that sexy Elf-boy ...cheesy blond or no...

And somewhere up the thread someone was discussing Stuart Townsend...wow, I didn't realize he was the original Aragorn I remember hearing about! He definitely does not fit my idea of Aragorn. Viggo, however, does quite nicely, despite the fact that they really screwed up Aragorn's character in the film, making him so reluctant, which Tolkien's Aragorn wasn't, he was just biding his time...

But I think Stuart T. was purdy-dang-hot in Queen of the Damned, lousy movie or not! Lestat is a great character to play, but I'll save that for another thread!!!

HoneysuckleMomma and Orlando sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.....

Orlando certainly is a cutie. But he is prettier than me...:LOL so I lean towards the more scruffy men.

Wow, alsoSarah, thanks! That's LOVELY.

I'd make it my wallpaper on puter if DH wouldn't have a complete fit...oh well.

Did anyone watch Primetime tonight? It was on LotR.

They showed a scene from RoK. With Elrond and Arwen...he was holding her hands and something about the light of the Eldar was leaving her and they showed her saying "There is no ship now that can bear me hence."

Arwen does say something like that in the books but it is to Aragorn as he is dying..

But why would Elrond be there? He went to the Undying lands..was it some dreamy/spirit thing??

AGGGGGHHHHHHH!! Going to be wondering about that until the 17th. Well..less than two weeks now.
