1st rude NIP comment + Awesomest Server Ever

After DD's ped visit this morning we were running erands. I stopped for lunch at Cracker Barrel. Our server was a very sweet older lady who just gushed over my DD.

DD was very content until a few min. after our food came. She melted down a bit and was crying fairly loudly. I tried to latch her on, but she wasn't really being able to settle so I was bouncing her and whispering in her ear which was calming her slowly. During this time an older couple was seated behind me.

When I had DD calmed down, I discreetly latched her and she was nursing with enthusiasm. As I'm latching her I hear a pretty loud, indignant voice behind me say, "Good Lord! That's not something you see every day!" Then quieter mutterings very obviously not complimentary to me. I roll my eyes and ignore.

The server comes bustling up and I'm thinking she's gonna ask me to stop or cover or something, but she just asks if she can get me anything as she fills my drink. Then she smiles down at DD, who is still obviously nursing, but headed towards sleep, and says, "Oh she calmed down enough to eat. She'll be asleep soon huh? You just let me know if you need anything"

Then she went back to check on the table behind me where they're still muttering about me. Still loud and indignant the woman says, "Do you realize she's nursing that baby?" The server says, "Yes, isn't it sweet." and walks away.

She got an awesome tip.

Yay! Positive stories needed around here.

Good for her! She handled that very well- being positive in the face of rude ignorance is SO hard!

Glad that you were able to nurse in peace!

That was sweet. It always suprises me even more when women make those comments.

OT- Do you think she would have preferred your dd scream her head off the whole time instead?

Oh geez, lol! I'd of said "Do you realize you're quite rude?"

to your server!

Wow, what an awesome story. . .I think I would have worried your server was going to say something bad about your nursing, but she didn't--that's great (I would have left a mongo tip as well)

I think that if I would have been there and heard the server say that, I just may have gotten up and hugged the woman!!!

I wonder if that waitress was a nursing mom herself (or had been a nursing mom when her kids were smaller.)

Or maybe grandma to a nursling?

I'm glad this made everyone as happy as it made me. I was alone with DD and really glad I didn't have to deal with any confrontation. I go to that cracker Barrel pretty often (not much more $ than fast food and healthier choices that I can share with DD) and I'll be on the look out for her again so I can ask to sit in her section.
