I try to make it very hearty I usually make oatmeal from soaked steel cut oats or oat groats.

Then add:
Cream or whole milk
spoon of butter and/or coconut oil (yum!)
chopped nuts (pecans are my fav for this)
sprinkle of ground flax
blueberries or other fruit (dried if that's all I have)
drizzle of maple syrup

If I use apples, I add cinnamon.

And I love to have bacon on the side! :

I like it with butter and salt, or pistachios and tart dried fruit like cranberries. And i definately apt for steel cut.

I also crack my own multi grain blend, heavy on the corn and eat it with buttermilk. The corn makes it nice and sweet.

I wasn eating veg for a long time, but not anymore and i LOVE hot cereal with the leftover pan grease and browned bits of bacon . When I cook bacon for the kids and DH (they don't like hot cereal much) I scrape out some of the fat for later, and then just add water to the pan (I use a cast iron so it's deep enough) and my cereal and cook. This could possibly be my absolute favorite thing to eat at the moment. Maybe something to do with not eating meat for so long but boy is it good.

Funny because now that I think about it, my kids and DH don't like "oatmeal" or cereal, but they LOVE rice pudding, which is basically the same.

If I'm planning ahead, I'll make baked oatmeal (with maple syrup and blueberries). If it's a last-minute decision to make I cook it with whole milk and add maple syrup and raisins to mine (and sunflower seeds if I have them), and frozen blueberries for DD.

Pumpkin, pumpkin pie spice, honey, cream and butter.
Dried apples, maple syrup and cinnamon.

When I used to have oatmeal, it was always butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar. DH would have the same, but pour half and half on his.

With Cream of Rice cereal (which I eat now), I put jam on it. DD2 puts maple syrup and nutmeg on hers.

Grits is just butter.

I have always eaten hot cereal with milk and a sprinkle of salt, which I didn't realize was weird until I was an adult.

Oatmeal w/coconut oil and cinnamon. If I want maple flavor, I break a fenugreek capsule into it.

I cook mine in the crockpot with a little bit of salt. When it's done in the morning the kids love it with brown sugar or maple syrup. I like mine with brown sugar too and sometimes I like it with strawberries or blueberries

we've started soaking oats over night, we do oats with almond milk and then add a combination of "others" including but not limited to: millet, quinoa, sunflower seeds, raisins, dried apples, fried apples, banana, butter, honey, brown sugar, cinamon, etc

grits i like savory, salt and pepper, cheese, fried egg on top,

but my housemates eat grits like oatmeal above

I have come up with some tasty oatmeal combinations, as well as dh. we don't eat it very much but our son has had oatmeal for breakfast everyday since he started eating solid food. I take granny smith apples and simmer them with a little bit of cinnamon, then throw some raisins on top. That's his favorite. Also i simmer whole cranberries, peach slices, and brown sugar and mix it in with his oatmeal. Can't go wrong!

We do agave, cinnamon, fruit, ground flaxseed and almond milk.

I like butter and some maple syrup in my oatmeal.

Grits I like butter, salt and pepper. If I'm feeling fancy I like to put bacon crumbles and a fried egg in there. mmmmm!

We don't them anymore here, but growing up mom fixed oatmeal a lot- oats were always w/ brown sugar, butter, and bacon. Rice was served w/ cinnamon, sugar and sausage.

All in the same bowl, or is the meat on the side?

Either way it sounds yum.

I eat mine with milk, and either brown sugar or maple syrup. Sometimes, I throw in raisins, dried cranberries, or chopped dried apricots. About a third of the time, I stir cinnamon, nutmeg and ground cloves into the oatmeal before adding the milk.

Most of the time, I just chop up a banana or add some berries... and then a bit of milk and brown sugar.

If I'm feeling decadent, I'll add some chopped almonds as well.
