Weird white swollen area on foreskin

I've been searching around here a bit, but haven't come up with anything. DS has a whitish, swollen area on one side of his foreskin. I just noticed it today, but he has said his penis hurts recently. Usually it's after he woken up in the morning and is still wearing his cloth diaper. I'll admit, he HATES baths so I don't make him take one too often but maybe that's part of the problem. Any ideas what this could be? I'll probably take him in to see a doctor but I'm nervous to do that because it would be a new doctor and I have no idea what their thoughts are on circumcision. Thanks for any help you might be able to give.

Without knowing any details, there's a fair chance that your son's foreskin is starting the separation process and that he has what is commonly referred to as a "smegma pearl" (not a pearl at all, just a lump of smegma) working it's way out from under his foreskin.

I'm sure several Mom's will respond in more detail about this, but basically a smegma pearl is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

My son's first "smegma pearl" (that I noticed) looked huge to me. It was about 1/2 inch long. It looked like a cheese curd was stuck under there. His penis was not inflamed at all and the smegma dissipated very very slowly over time. My doctor had to go find another pediatrician to find out what it was. I had mixed feelings about that. 1. it worried me that the ped was that ignorant about penises with foreskins but 2. happy that she knew to ask for help...

Either smegma pearl or cyst either way no cause for concern. Here is a thread that you can find pictures of both http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732

As far as not bathing a lot being the problem my ds only gets a bath once a month. and before you think eeeewww gross I do wash him off daily with wipes or a rag. So not having a regular bath shouldnt be a problem.

It doesn't look like either of those two things. It's more like the outer skin is puffy. It doesn't seem to be bothering him, other than the potty issues we've been having. Which are that he seems to need to go a lot, but REALLY likes to hold it as long as possible. More on that here. Thanks for the replies, though!

Unless it is bothering him I would just keep a casual eye on it. 99% of the time these types of things resolve on their own with no problems.

I would not worry about it. Each boy experiences normal separation differently. Sounds like you son just has a place that is separating. This can cause minor swelling. Unless it gets red and the swelling increases dramatically and he is having a lot of pain don't worry. Some minor discomfort can be normal too.
