I agree too, the new album is too, i dunno, slow and kinda boring I really looooove Dido but I'm not feeling the new album so much.

Some of my favorites:

Time after Time: Remake by Eva Cassidy

Hunter by Dido

Over the Rainbow, Eva Cassidy

Love Colbie Caillat: Tied down, Capri

Jonatha Brooke: Annie from the live album

Mindy Smith: Come to Jesus

Agree with Ani and Lucinda Williams. But have to say the big fave in our house is Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses fame, both the Muses stuff and her solo work. She's awesome (and was a mom way before me, so was totally inspiring in that way also). I also like the Dixie Chicks, and some local favorites that you could check out are Stargazer Lily and Swati.

DH is a big fan of Neko Case. He's also really into The Creatures stuff that Siouxsie Sioux did a while back.

My FAVORITE is Priscilla Ahn! You can find her on myspace, check her out. Also love Fiona Apple, Rosie Thomas, Lucy Wainwright Roche, and Kate Voegele

I second: Regina Spektor, Kimya Dawson, Imogen Heap, Colbie Caillat and Eva Cassidy

Me too. "Come to my Window" and "I Want to Come Over" are so great.

This is a great thread, I hope to listen to the suggestions. We (sadly) have all our cd's stored in the basement (to avoid the unsteady case they were in from toppling) so I can't do a scan through, which I need to do (my brain won't function right now to remember all I want)

I've been fortunate to see a few of these in concert, Indigo Girls w/ Cowboy Junkies opening, Mazzy Star, Throwing Muses, and the Cardigans... Plus Alanis Morrisette, julianna Hatfield

Tori, Sarah, Melissa, Cranberries, Fiona. I like No Doubt- although I haven't been in the mood for that kind of music lately. My dh introduced me to a wider variety of music (still does) like Sade, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Lix Phair,Cocteau Twins, 10,000 Maniacs (another of my favs), Blondie and others. I do like Cyndi Lauper (love, I Drove All Night for car trips) and heck, some of Madonna's stuff, too (another good choice for the car when I need 'lively'). Ah, Garbage - Shirley Manson.

I also went to Janis Joplin, when I was a toddler (along with a ton of other great bands I wish I could have seen when I was old enough to appreciate).

A favorite for every mood, reason, or season, lol.

I like raspy, bluesy voices, so Norah Jones, Feist (not really bluesy, tho) & Ingrid Michaelson. If anyone knows of anyone they can recommend, I'd love to know :

Decode & That's What you Get by Paramore.
I really love their songs especially their vox, Hayley Williams.

Oh, man. Everybody start the pointing and laughing now.

Heart- oh, hush. Love 'em.
Some Joan Jett
Heather Nova
Big Girls Don't Cry- Fergie (because it was my labor song and got me through 43 hours of induced hell, thankyouverymuch)
Sometimes I like Blackmore's Night, Enya, maybe even the Celtic Woman stuff.
Alannah Miles- Black Velvet
Sinead O'Connor- No Man's Woman
Fleetwood Mac- Stevie Nicks is incredible. You know she hit sixty last year?

I've been annoyed by the lack of female musicians I enjoy, but lately it seems they're all so, uh... well, y'know.
