Books for 7yo that do not talk about school

....or better yet, books with characters who homeschool?

I saw the other thread on chapter books for 3yo and got some good ideas but I am specifically looking for books for my 7yo to read that don't center around kids being in school. Books that actually mention homeschooling would be fantastic.

We have this but haven't read it yet....Ida B by Katherine Hannigan. It's about a homeschooled girl who has to go back to "that Place of Slow but Sure Body-Cramping, Mind-Numbing, Fun-Killing Torture." I think this was recommended on the unschooling forum.

Also, we recently read Nim's Island by Wendy Orr & that was fun.

Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie Tolan involves homeschooling/unschooling. It is both funny and touching.

7 year old ds just read and enjoyed My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. I can't remember if school is mentioned at all, but in it a 10ish year old boy decides to go live in the mountains on his own with his family's blessing (showing their confidence that he can do it) and he spends a year living in the Catskills fending forhimself - learning to hunt, training a falcon, making fires. His dad comes up one or twice to say hi. It's a cool story that I think would appeal in a lot of ways to radical unschoolers

I'm not sure what reading level it is, but I would guess higher than an "average" seven year old is reading. If your son is not quite able to read it himself, it might make a good read aloud.
