Blockbuster/Paypal deal - get 2.5 months free and make ~ $17

I just did this, and it worked great. You sign up for blockbuster online here. Their cheapest plan is $3.99 a month - you'll have to click on "See all available plans" to find it, but it's there. Sign up for that, and make sure your paypal account is your method of payment. That plan gives you two DVDs a month by mail.

You'll get a 2 week free trial, and then your paypal will be charged $3.99 plus tax. At the end of the first paid month, you'll be charged another $3.99 plus tax, but somewhere around that same time you'll get a $25 credit in your paypal account. My credit came before I was charged, FWIW, so I only paid $3.99 up front.

After you get and return the two DVDs you get during your second month, you can go in and cancel your account online, and then you're done!

Dang, it doesn't work if you have ever had an online subscription with them. I had one quite a while ago, but cancelled it at least a year ago, but they wouldn't let me do it.

An important update: I signed up for this deal in December, so I've been expecting my refund. I called Blockbuster today, and now I am p---ed.

First, I got an outsourced c.s. rep who was extremely rude. He demanded I give him my credit card number, "because that's the only way we can process this refund." I told him that's not what the agreement said, yet he kept insisting I give him my cc. Not freaking likely! I had to ask him four times to speak to a supervisor, while he kept insisting his supervisor would just tell me the same thing. But when I got a Blockbuster rep on the phone, she said "it looks like you do qualify for the PayPal refund, so I will go ahead and process it." Huh? Wasn't this supposed to be automatic? :

So it appears to me like Blockbuster is trying to save money by screwing people out of their rebates. If you're still waiting for your rebate, you might need to call Blockbuster and persist until you get a non-outsourced Blockbuster rep on the phone. I took down her name/number, so I can follow up if I don't get my refund in the promised time. The number I called is 866-692-2789.
