Alright, why not???

Do you like any of the movie adaptations?

We always watched a version of it on Christmas Eve on tv when I was growing up. To me, it's the quintessential Christmas film.

I don't know, the story just doesn't do much for me. Ok, the Disney one with Mickey Mouse is slightly amusing : We have the George C Scott one on dvd because dh loves A Christmas Carol. Although the one from the 30s is his fav. I just can't get into the story. :

"Thank you very much, thank you very much, that's the nicest thing that anyone's ever done for me..."

Ah, well...

What Christmas movies DO you like? And what is it about A Christmas Carol that you don't like?

I have actually never seen it. But I generally hate morality tales.

I do love Miracle on 34th Street ( the Natalie Wood one ) and It's a Wonderful Life. The Santa Clause. The Nativity Story. Home Alone.

I LOVE Home Alone! I haven't seen The Nativity Story. Will add that to my list of movies to see...

Lots of good movies on your list!

I was thinking about Scrooge awhile ago ( it's one of my favorites) and thinking that the point is we are supposed to get out there and help people, be involved and not just think of ourselves...and how somehow we have maybe mistranslated the message to we should all have BIG Christmases, lots of presents and party hard during the holiday season. That Christmas everyday and keeping Christmas well means helping mankind, making the world a better place, being generous and not miserly with our time as well as our worldly goods...however, I had a HARD time in English classes getting the point of a lot of literature and would run off down rabbit trails that no one else, including the teacher, was seeing at all...literary or film analysis isn't one of my strong points.

I will admit, though I love It's a Wonderful Life, it feels too long to me.

When I was a kid the Mr. Magoo Scrooge cartoon used to scare me!

The version with Patrick Stewart is the best.

I love it. And that's where we learned to play the game "The Governor's Cat", without which no party is complete.

Closest to the book I think. I always cry when they go around the world and hear people singing Silent Night. ( That is the song, right?)

I wonder if I could get anyone in our family up for a rousing game of The Governor's Cat? It really does look like fun!

Okay, I will go play on another thread now.

P.S. I was just thinking...isn't it The Minister's Cat? I will have to watch that version this week and pay attention.

Okay, I am really gone now.
