Corinee Mae born in the caul

Corinne Mae Hardy
Born December 18th
6lbs 4oz

Birth Story:
The day started with really light cramping which aside from a very low baby was the only sign our little one may make an early entry. We went to our scheduled midwife appointment to find I was 2 cm (pretty expected for #2) and the head was "right there". Our midwife stretched my cervix and we headed home hoping to welcome a new little one in a few days.

Immediately after the appointment the cramping got more intense and more frequent but nothing crazy. I went out for lunch and a walk around Ikea of all places. I lasted about 45min before I just knew I needed to be home.

I got home shortly after 1pm with what could now be called contractions. I sat on the birth ball while my DH filled the bath tub. The bath provided no relief as things were very quickly getting more intense and dh called the midwife (the on call midwife was currently at another birth). She listened to me have a contraction over the phone and called the midwife we had just seen in the morning to come ASAP. DH started setting up the birth pool and my mom and DD helped calm me through the intensifying contractions.

I sat on the toilet vocalizing through contractions and thinking the midwife may not make it in time. She did make it and I immediately felt myself relax a little.

We made our way downstairs to the pool. She checked me just before I got in and I was 8cm and starting to feel the need to push. I had to wait a few contractions while the pool water was cooled which felt like an eternity. Once I climbed in the water provided immediate relief and I actully got a break between contractions.

With my mom and DD holding my hands Corinne was born in the caul into her dad's waiting hands. The midwife then floated her between my legs (I was on my knees leaning over the edge of the pool) and I reached down and pulled my baby out of the water.

Corinne Mae was born at 3:34pm after 2 hrs of active labour. It was quick, intense, blissful and so wounderful to be at home this time.
