Lovely organic merino (that stinks)

I received some organic merino, and it is lovely, but doesn't smell too good. I usually love the way yarn smells, especially minimally processed stuff like Peace Fleece, and even straight up lanolin. But this yarn does not smell good. Kinda like a little manure pile, and a little like something I can't identify. I guess I should give it a nice shampoo?

If the smell isn't pleasant, I would! Who wants to knit with stinky yarn .

I did shampoo it, then gave it a few drops of eo, and it's fine! I've never smelled yarn like that. Originally, my post was "Why does my XXX(brand name) yarn stink like heck?" and luckily I had second thoughts before I posted something that may have discouraged other people from trying this nice yarn. It did seem dirty, though. The water was discolored during the washing.

But it is nice now.
