12/22 ??

I think our baby thinks 12/22 might be a good birthday. Maybe? Good grief, if this is just prodromal labour, I am cooked when it comes to the real thing!
Ctx started about 4.5 hours ago, and still don't seem to have much of a pattern (2-10 minutes apart), but I'm far too uncomfortable to stay in bed.
Anyway, good thoughts our way? I'm having a hard time not tensing up with every contraction, and I know that's not a good thing. And, who said these things feel like menstrual cramps?!

I have to say I think today is a great day to have a baby, and this is the first time in my life I've ever wished for bloody mucus to appear from my vagina! LOL

I did do it! It was really hard though. Not so much the labour, but the pushing, which went on for nearly 5 hours.
And, she is a GIRL!!!! I almost died. I was sure she was a boy. She was crooked, which resulted in an anterior cervical lip and some cervical swelling. Not fun. But, the baby is very fun. No name. 9.2lbs, and 21", with weird membranes. It feels totally surreal though. Amazing.

We finally decided on Maren Anna as a name for this amazing little person. She's, or rather *we're*, wretched breastfeeders. I posted over in breastfeeding, but I'm totally at a loss. She SCREAMS at the breast in every position, ecept side-lying, where she falls asleep in .2 seconds. I'm really weepy about it - all the challenges are completely unexpected ones and it's a lot harder than I expected it to be in some ways. Easier in others though.

re: weird membranes - I eventually consented to having them ruptured after about three hours of pushing. They were bulging and I could really feel that they were interfering. They were reaaly, really tough though, and the placenta had an extra set of membranes. Babe and cord were in a smaller one, inside the membranes of steel. Not sure if I'm describing it properly, but it looked like there were perhaps twins at some point.

I can't believe were nearly all holding our babes now - when this ddc opened, December felt like a lifetime away!
