How old was your child when she/he weaned at night? during the day?

For those mothers who put no restrictions on their child's nursing habits, when did your child stop needing to nurse at night? If you cosleep, when did your child move in to her/his own bed or own room? When did your child get around to stopping needing to nurse?

I'm pregnant with my first and very interested in child led weaning, but I don't know anybody who nurses much beyond 2 years, and most wean before(!?) their kids are 1 and work to eliminate night nursing long before that. I just want to get a sample from some moms who have done it so that I can get a realistic idea about what to really expect.

well - my youngest turns 2 next week and he has slept through the night maybe 15 times in 2 years - he is still up 1-3 times a night to nurse. We co-slept for almost a year and then moved him to his crib, but he still ends up in our bed for a few hours every night. He's no longer in his crib because his older sister nicely taught him how to climb out. I think he's actually sleeping better now that he's not in the crib, but still nursing at night.

as for during the day - it varies on how busy we are and if he's having a clingy day. Sometimes we nurse in the morning and not again till the evening. Some days he'll nurse several times during the day. We just do whatever he wants for the most part - with some limits put in place by me if he's being super demanding some days.

DD1 stopped waking up to nurse right when she turned 3 and stopped nursing to sleep at the same time. She weaned herself completely a couple weeks before her 4th B-Day. She decided she wanted her own room when she was 5, that lasted 6 months until she developed anxiety, now DH sleeps with her in her room.

DD2 stopped nursing to sleep and waking up at night shortly after she turned 2 which was in Oct. She still sleeps with me, if she is ready, we might transition her to sleeping with DH this spring when #3 is born, if not then I'll just move over to make room. She still nurses during the day but she has moved away from nursing for comfort already. : She prefers a hug and a kiss now instead of nursing.

I wouldn't say "no restrictions" but if observed from the outside looking in, I'd say some people might have viewed it that way.

(For example, while on the toilet or while driving were out of the question. ;-)

Maya stopped nursing at night at 5 years 3 or 4 months. She stopped nursing altogether two days ago (a month shy of 5.5 years).
