Book suggestions for 11-year-old?

I have a wonderful 11-year-old niece who's quite an advanced reader. She loves murder mysteries, scary stories, and fantasy. I need to get her a couple of books, and I am trying to think of things that will challenge and entertain her while still being appropriate for a fairly sheltered tween (no sex, no graphic violence). I'm going to get her Agatha Christie's "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd," but I was hoping those of you more experienced with this age group would have some other suggestions for me. Thanks!

Oh! How about Neil Gaiman's Coraline? I read that about a year ago and it scared ME!

Other scary but not gory or violent books:

The Haunting of Hill House, Shirley Jackson
Jane/Emily, Patricia Clapp
A Candle in Her Room, Ruth Arthur (out of print and might be hard to find)
Tamsin, Peter S. Beagle. Also, Beagle's The Last Unicorn is the most beautiful and moving fantasy novel I have ever read -- it's just gorgeous and if she likes fantasy it would be a perfect gift.

Has she read the Sherlock Holmes stories? I adored those as a kid.

Kind of retro, but ... my 11yo DS#1 adores "The Hardy Boys." He inhales them. We've got a stack of Nancy Drews for when our DD#1 reaches 10-ish, hoping she'll go for them, too (they're really similar).

She doesn't want his. Says they're "boys books."
