I had an appt. with my nurse practitioner today and we ended up talking about vaccines. Apparently when I first started seeing her I told her that my DS wasn't getting any vaccines yet but maybe when he's older. So, at MY appt., she brought out her ctach up schedule and showed me all the vaccines she wan'ts to give Owen at his 12 month appt. The schedule recommened almost all the vaccines in one day but she said she would do less.
So we ended up talking vaccines and these are some of the finer points:
-I was telling her how more people will be getting chicken pox now because of the vaccine and she told me that I was wrong and we would actually be seeing LESS shingles and that I didn't understand because I had never seen anyone die of chicken pox. As if she has! lol
-apparently polio is running rampant is Toronto because of all the immigration. I asked her how severe the cases were there and she said all the people who caught it were now crippled. Right here in Toronto. Did I miss something? I hadn't heard about this?
-Owen is at very high risk of catching tetanus from LICKING stuff
-the fact that Owen is not vaccinated makes the chances of a cold or fever turning into an ear infection much higher
Ugh. She actually is a really great NP most of the time. And we didn't argue. It was really friendly. She told me she wouldn't be able to sleep at night if she felt she hadn't explained things to me properly. And I told her that I honestly thought she had Owen's best interests at heart, which I really think she does.
There are no new cases of polio right?
