Websites to bid on work?

Does anyone know of other websites like HireMyMom.com where you can get little contracting jobs?

I knew of one awhile ago, but can't find it again. I think it was for more technical things like building Access database applications. And you had to pay a $90/qtr or something to be a member.

The employers would post small projects, and then you could bid on them.

I know there must be a few of these out there. I think there are lots of scams too, so I am wondering if any of you have experience with a good place to find this type of thing.

Surprise layoff has me scrambling.

thanks!

guru.com
elance.com
I can't remember the other one, I had no luck with any of them, people in other countries (mostly India) charge so little I couldn't compete.

Thank you Mamas. Have any of you used these, and did you like the quality/quantity of jobs available?

I am discouraged that none of you have experience with these companies, and it makes me wonder if they are really legit!

I know you smart and experienced mamas would be ALL OVER any legitimate work-from-home opportunity.

Here are a couple more I found. I'm not sure if they are any good, I am hoping somebody can tell me!
---FlexJobs.com (costs you $15/mo to start)
---LiveOps, a customer call-center service.

I'm just so hesitant to pay money up front without somebody recommending it. It seems like the only ones making money are the people promising others information about working from home!

I am familiar with guru.com and elance.com and can verify they are legit. I have used rent-a-coder more than once and would use i again. You have to make sure you choose an offer from someone who you are able to communicate with and seem to have a little bit of rapport with - otherwise it can be frustrating to get exactly what you need (I learned that the hard way).

Although I have not used them I do believe guru.com and rentacoder are legit. I have not done any work that way, because I was intimidated by the idea of having to prepare and submit proposals in order to apply for work. I decided I will have to wait until my kids are older and not so much in my hair all the time. I can barely manage my email these days, so I'm not sure when I could take on work from home that would involve sitting at a computer and having some quiet time to concentrate. Anyway, that is why I never gave it a go.
