Does NJ offer a philisophical exemption? I can understand how religious schools can say "if you're our religion, then there's no religious objection to vaccines" but they can't object to your personal philosophy. If this is available in your state, it might be a better approach to take with a religious school.

as far as I know NJ does not accept philosophical exemptions.

The pre-school we are in does not even accept medical exemptions.

So if a doctor states that a child can not recieve a vaccination the school doesn't care... well obviously they don't care what would happen... I personally wouldn't want my child in that school...
My child is one... the doctor filled out a medical exemption, I was told that his reactions were bad enough giving him the vaccinations could cause death or possibility of perm. neurological damage... so to not even take that into consideration, is completely ludicrous!!!! What about children who have cancer or are too weak to recieve the vaccinations, and wish to attend school... wow I am completely dumbfounded with this one...

If you are a strong willed person... I think finding out if they recieve funding, and then fighting to have your child stay there would be a good statement for us parents that don't want them... If everyone just steps down and doesn't care, or cares but doesn't dare do anything... what change will that bring... Nothing!

I applaud you for trying to find a way to do something...

I think they should start setting up schools that are completely friendly either way... vaccinated or not. Wouldn't that be nice?

Thank you for all you input.

I can really use a boost right now. School would start again on Monday after the Christmas break and my daughter is already looking forward to it. I am not looking forward to tell her that she won't be able to go there.

I called the Public Health Representative and they told me that parochial schools are the only ones who can refuse to accept religious exemptions.

You know what... she will meet friends and love the school you find for her just as much as the one she is in now! You don't want to be somewhere that doesn't allow you to make the best choices for your own child. Really, you are doing the right thing!

Let us know how everything goes.

Personally, I wouldn't want my child to be in a school that dictated PERSONAL health decisions.

Even if you did find a way to let dd stay in that school w/o the flu shot, I'm a little concerned what that means for the treatment of not only you but of dd. The finger pointing, gossip and all. Sure, don't let people bully you but is it worth it to open yourselves up to possible unkindness? Maybe give a new school a second thought? Good luck in whatever you decide and cheers to you for sticking to your beliefs

thank you all again.

Today I found out, that the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Service is giving people a grace period beyond Wednesday's original deadline with the flu shot.

I also emailed all the parents in the school to find out if there is someone in the same situation. And yes, one parent is a member of the NJ coalition for vaccination choice.

If they kick my daughter out of the school, they will have to let her back in April, after the flu season.
And for the next school year I might have to send her to another school.

I will keep you up to date of what is happening.

quick update on my situation:

My daughter is not allowed back to school until the end of the flu season.

Seems like I picked the wrong preschool, since it is the only one in this area not accepting religious exemptions. bummer.

Are there any other parents whose children are kicked out of pre school because of the flu shot?

they really don't accept ANY state funding? If they do, they HAVE to allow your religious exemption. If they don't, you do, you do have to find another school. I know it sucks - but requiring the worthless flu shot for preschoolers - when its been shown that it has no more than a placebo effect is criminal. if it helps any - i ended up homeschooling my 6th and 3rd graders in NYC over vaccination issues. never thought I'd do it...but when you have one with vaccine-induced autism, suddenly impossible things become possible. good luck!

It is very scary how militant they are getting with their worthless snake oil.

Yes, because we all know the flu only strikes from October 1st to April 30th.

So sorry you and your daughter had to go through this. Sounds like the school's director is on a huge power trip.

Better to get out now than later

Sorry about your situation, especially for your daughter, but I agree with everyone else that it might be best to count your losses now, than have to deal with further ridiculous demands in the future. Doesn't sound like a school you want a future with at all.

The flu vaccine is probably THE most useless vaccines made. It is purely a profit engine for big pharma. If it was completely innocuous, meaning it's ineffectiveness as a vaccine, it might be OK, but the fact of the matter is that this vaccine could very well do a lot of harm.

Imagine if you caved to the school's pressure and went ahead with the shot and then disaster struck and she got a rare severe vaccine reaction that caused permanent damage or worse death!

Could you live with that decision then?
