Oranges and cinnamon sticks and bay leaves, oh my!

I recently was at a friend's house and saw a handmade seasonal decoration hanging in her kitchen. I could ask her how it was made, but it was a gift and I'd rather find out from you mamas in case you've heard of something similar.

It was a string of stacked scented goodies! Clementines, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks and some other stuff...what else would go good with that? The leaves were dried and I think there were a few other herbs or spices on the string. What sort of string would you use to hold it all together? What other herbs/spices or items could you add? It was so beautiful and smelled delicious! :

What sorts of homemade wintery items have you made for your home? Potpourri?

I saw something like that ages ago which was quite pretty.
It started with a pretty bow at the bottom and was stacked with dried apples, dried oranges, cinnamon sticks and bay leaves and was topped with another ribbon and a sprig of cedar and berries - it was really quite lovely.
I think I might try beading wire instead of thread.
good luck

I work with herbs and things of that sort, but how do I dry fruits? I'm new to this
